New Evoque with Ingenium engine...?

Hi folks

D3 now sold Big Cry Big Cry but new car shopping to do Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Wifey likes the Evoque despite it being matchbox sized inside.

Went to Lookers to sit in one, it's a nice looking thing with a lovely if microscopic interior. Test drive lined up for Friday. Power is well down compared to same engine in the Disco 5 (allegedly).

Anyone with any real world experience of it with the latest Ingenium engine ideally as an auto? Or other thoughts on the Evoque.

Opinions of all flavours welcome Thumbs Up Graham

Don't they come with different power outputs? I've been told there is a 300 bhp version...don't know if it's true.

I can't fit inside an Evoque so had a Disco Sport loan car which has the same engine. Quiet, refined, smooth changes (auto), well put together and initial pick-up was good. As you would expect, the acceleration from 60-80 isn't what I'd call sprightly but it's acceptable. I'm also not sure about the economy; it could have been the way I was driving it (with gusto) but the economy wasn't as good as expected. In it's defence, it had less than a thousand miles on it.

I know the early Evoques had problems with the gearbox but that's long sorted.

The box problems continue with the new 9 speed though. Way too many gears and it's never in the right one.

Ingenium engine is pretty good though, a quantum leap over the Massey Ferguson 2.2 unit.

Posting on here rather than babyRR as there's no interesting activity on that site at all.

Well I had my test drive today. I have to say that I was very impressed. The new engine is fantastically better than the old 2.2 unit, is much smoother, much quieter, and overall a very satisfactory experience. I really like the car, I was more impressed that I expected to be quite frankly. I do think that it is a bit short of power especially at low revs, so it might be simply that this was a brand-new car (and it will free up as the miles rise), or it may be something that needs to be addressed with a remap!

Or maybe, it's a characteristic of that 9 speed auto gearbox. Others have commented about it being in the wrong gear some of the time.

I'm mighty tempted. I feel an Evoque coming on as the fit and proper replacement for our trusty, much-loved and now dearly-departed Discovery. Graham

Yes there's at least a 140, 180 and 240bhp version. 300 seems ambitious. Lack of low down torque is more of a problem though. Graham
