Ok everyone. So I got her back yesterday and the test drives went well. Did approx 25 miles in her.

Now the slight issue. She was slightly hesitant in 800-900 rpm as if abit low of fuel pressure.

This morning she started perfect, but where I was parked meant I had to reverse slightly uphill on gravel. She stalled out and now wont restart. It's turning over, but it's like it's not getting fuel. Any quick way to bleed these machines, I've the AA coming out now any minute!! (May aswell use them!) I read there is a bleedpoint somewhere at the rear of the engine??

Once, I have her going again will give a good report.

So bad news! The AA man couldn't get her going. There is fuel getting to the top of the engine, didn't do check any closer than that. Not sure about pressure. She turning over nicely but just isn't firing. I don't think it's a problem due to the rebuild, as it didn't stall immediately. I'm fairly certain it is a fuel problem.

Where should I look! All was going so well until this point. Ideas?

Did you move the fuel injection pump at all during the rebuild if so did you retime it to the engine

- strange it ran for 25 miles though ?

Worth checking all your connectors / earth points - sounds like something has moved / vibrated and or fallen off (I speak from experiance here on the last one) I would put my 10p on a earth point...

I don't think it's the fuel injection pump. It can only fit on one way and as you said yourself it ran perfect for a few miles.

Fuel is getting to the injectors as there is a smell of unburnt fuel from the exhaust. Where should I look for the earthing points?

It's very strange as she was idling perfect and only stalled as I put the throttle on. It's as if it almost at the point of firing then it doesn't. I can't think of anything which in the rebuild could have caused this.

Start either easy stuff, check all the fuses. I agree it sounds fuel related. If a sensor somewhere is not reading right the ECU won't deliver fuel. Again check the easy to access sensors and connectors first eg MAFs next to air filter.

Do you have access to a scanning device like an IID tool? ______________________________

I have an IID tool but it's paired to my old Discovery. I must get it paired to the RR tomorrow. That might shed more light on the situation.

I really hope nothing has gone amiss! I tired starting it there again, it keeps turning and almost firing! Never quite does though.

Could be a loss of compression, but how this would have happened would be amiss to me.

Do you get fuel at the filter? Can you crack one of the pipes off and turn it over? If you're not getting fuel there then perhaps the lift pump in the tank? Ed

Yes. There is fuel at the filter! I wonder would the fact that the fuel is old be making a difference. It's from April?

What's the temperature like?

It's a little known fact that diesel will wax up in cold temperatures. Fuel companies introduce additives as the temperature drops to prevent this. So if the fuel is from April then it may well be summer diesel rather than winter.

I had a similar issue with my old 2.25D when going up hill in the winter. Basically enough fuel could get through on the flat but not going up. We happened to mention it to our neighbour and he asked when we'd filled the diesel tank on the farm. Summer. He said al with always fill it up in the winter because then it'll have the additive. Doesn't matter for road cars as most won't keep fuel in the tank for that long, whereas farm tanks normally last at least a few months if not years. Ed

You could be on to something. But surly the fact that she is pumping fuel out the lines it would be OK? There is approxmetely half a tank in it, should I add new fuel?

Once fuel waxes can it be unwaxed? For example should all of the turning in the engine have fixed it?

^^^ very plausible. At these temps you're probably getting some fuel through the filter so you can smell it coming out of the exhaust but not enough being injected into the cyclinder to ignite under compression.

Some fuel may be coming through but not enough. The Series started and ran fine only until you floored it or went up hill.

I had the lift pump go in the TDV8 and there was a reasonable amount of fuel still being drawn but not enough to fire it up. Do you get anything on the diagnostics because there is a fault logged if the high pressure pressure is too low. Ed
