As there are so many well informed members on the forum, sound advice sought please

Included within a 10 year old boy's increasingly long Christmas wish list is an iPhone 6.

Having seen the generic destruction and inability to look after most toys, regardless of cost, we're loathe to buy a brand new one (his significantly older brother got a brand new one when they first came out and within a month, dropped it down the toilet

Wondered, if anyone can please advise as to where best to buy a sim free, 'pre-owned'/ refurbished iPhone 6 that will arrive boxed/ will have a good chance of going unnoticed as being 'used'.

Any advice welcome.

Hi, try Gumtree within your local area. That way you see and test it before buying and can make your mind up on the spot.

I had to LOL just like Alan there, it's mental what kids expect these days, however , If you can hang off until next year, I will be upgrading my 128gig iPhone 6 for the new new one which is expected some time next year as it's the 10th anniversary of the unit. Sad , yes, i'm a bit of an iPhone fanboy, don't hate me for it!

It's been in a speck high impact case all it's days and is immaculate with screen protector etc.

My 14 year-old son has a 5S and is perfect happy with it. My 5 year-old daughter has my very first iPhone 4 which is utterly worthless and has been abused by myself, my wife, my son and then handed down to her with no SIM, limited apps and just wifi. It's just a plaything for her, but she uses it for YouTube stuff.

We made a deal with our son that when he went to secondary school, then he would get a phone. It was a practical move as he gets the bus and it often lets him down (as it did this morning), so it's handy to stay in touch.

I'm sure your son is responsible and intelligent, but I cannot see him or anyone else his age being unhappy with a cheaper model on the premise it gets upgraded as he gets older.

By the way, an iPhone 4 can survive being dropped in the bath and a 6Plus can survive being dropped in the toilet.  Si. <This is my name.

I have a 128GB 6S that my wife has just upgraded from to a 7. Hadn't decided what to do with it quite yet but it could be made available. Only issue for a 14yr old boy is that it's the rose gold one...... Current Fleet;

Lots of phone repair shops have these for sale and will offer a warranty. Just my humble opinion but a 5s is just as good and as a iphone fan boy since day one , the Samsung S range are superb Number one son has the S7 edge and it's far superior in ability to my iPhone 6 + Samsung have the. Our eldest is saying the iPhone 6 has lost its sparkle/ sharpness at 18 months old and is - as others on here are doing - advising that an iPhone 5 should more than tick his younger sibling's boxes... Wonder if any loss in sparkle has anything to do with a swim in the bog... And whether his recommendation has something to do with your 'bragging rights' Si

Depends how they've been treated. My wife's 6 looks brand new as it was in a case and had a screen protector from the second it came out of the box. WHereas my Galaxy S7 edge has no protection and looks 3 years old at less than 6 months.
