New but have been lurking for a while

I've been lurking on here for around 3/4 years, don't know why I haven't signed up.

3 and a bit years ago I had a 05 td6 vogue then went onto numerous other cars, bought another td6 and then a sport tdv6 now currently in an old 2002 4.4 black vogue which is actually very reliable. But now I'm looking for a 3.6 tdv8 vogue

Plan to put the same 21" turbines on it and leave it at that.

Also if anyone can compare the drive of my current car to the tdv8 I'd much appreciate it. I find mine and all the previous ones I've had wallow around the roundabouts and a/b roads like a boat... Was this improved in the 2nd facelift?

I know this doesn't really help, but my 4.4 with adaptive dynamics is much better than my old td6. It does have 20 inch wheels, but that won't really stop much leaning. I drove a 3.6 about 9 years ago and can't remember that much.

I recon they are always going to lean somewhat. If you want something chuckable an X5 might be better, but then you'd lose everything else....

A newer car with less miles might have tighter suspension? You prob need to drive a few.....

Thanks for the reply!

Am I right in thinking the 3.6 was given adaptive dynamic suspension too?

I've had numerous x5's including the 4.8is and it just couldn't live up the a Range Rover in any aspect other than handling and speed.

If the 3.6 had adaptive dynamics it would have not been until the 2010 facelift. I think they had it, those with very late 3.6's will inform us to be sure. The trouble I had when I was looking though, was that if you go that late, man maths makes you put a bit extra in and just get the 4.4..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

As said 2010 bought in adaptive dynamics, however I'm not too sure that the pre-AD 3.6 and the AD 4.4 are that different to drive. Having had both they are very similar in terms of road manners and the amount they lean etc when they corner is kind of down to physics I'm afraid. The 4.4 corners slightly flatter if anything but i still wouldn't describe it as chuckable.

My disco drives better than the FF tbh and is more chuckable in the bends. It is certainly better on bigger wheels handling wise . There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well I go to collect my tdv8 tomorrow! Hopefully it's as described... anything other than the usual to look for with this engine?

I've also purchased some l405 22" wheels and tyres. I'd rather have gone for 21" but after I paid £1800 for my last set 3 years ago and not seeing the return I decided to buy a set off eBay (genuine used) but much cheaper than my old set.

Thanks Kevin, I do indeed recognise the user and avatar from mb uk.

I got it home last night to Cornwall after a 300 mile drive. Completely different animal drive compared to a td6 or 4.4v8

The steering is the biggy, it's so light compared to all my other l322's! Cornering is a huge improvement, much more stable and doesn't feel like I'm going to fall out the passengers window when going around a roundabout!

Engine performance wise... off the line similar to a mapped td6 from what I can tell. However, once you're on a motorway it's much more effortless than the petrol v8 4.4 or td6 to pull away at higher speeds. Engine is considerably quieter too!

Things that need doing. Air pipes as it does produce a bit of black smoke when flooring it.

New grilles and side vents as these are currently chrome 😷

Fit the 22" L405 style 8's

Fix reversing camera (any idea why it's just showing black?)

As for the camera, there are several threads on this including http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic39592....mera+black but it sounds like the camera might be defective.

Thanks for the thread on the reverse cam there!

It's quieter in every aspect, road noise and the engine of course.

It needs a good machine polish but I'm doing that today.

Well I'm very happy with it, I need to refurbish the wheels and then it's cosmetically exactly how I want it.

I have to be honest I thought I preferred 21" wheels but I feel this design is so beefy and stand out as it is such a vast amount of wheel, I prefer them. They also ride very well as they have the 40 profile rather than the silly 35's that are like rubber bands

You've made a lovely job of buffing that.

One day, I'll pluck up the courage to give mine a machine polish......once I've got around to building a garage large enough to shelter it from the elements post correction.

Wheel wise, I like 20" because they are nice compromise between look and sidewall depth. Mine with shadow chrome Style 18 wheels.
