Just had a fright, Ignition key will not turn. After a bit of messing about I realise it will turn as normal if I push down on the key whilst turning it so panic over, car starts fine. This is new, I have searched the various threads ie cable sticking, ecu issue etc but that is not my problem. Tried the 2nd key and exactly the same. Any one else had this happen and know the fix. 2007 TDV8 VSE

The info on the wiki and other threads detail a cable sticking which can be lubed at the key switch end and the column locking bolt which can be lubed by drilling a hole in the column itself, both stop the key turning completely. I cant find anything similar to my problem. I have since read on BMW forums where keys wont turn at all due to key tumblers sticking in the barrel fixed by lube. I am wondering if I have managed to get something dropped into the hole which is stopping the key going fully in. I have hit it with wd40 as the BMW guys advise, would have used graphite if I had any to hand. It does seem I dont need to push the key down so firmly now so maybe over a few days it will return to normal? At least I can turn the key 100% with a bit of downward pressure. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Please to report that I just had another play, compressed air through a needle nozzle deep into the keyhole then more wd40, thats about 6 hours after the 1st blast of wd40. Voilą, back to its silky smooth operation. Fingers crossed for now but will get some graphite powder into it once I get hold of some. 2007 TDV8 VSE
