L322 5.0 Supercharged, your thoughts

What is everyone's thoughts on the L322 5.0 SC Autobiography? Is it much difference between it & the 4.2? performance I'm guessing will be noticeably improved! Laughing

Ive got one but can only compare it with a 3.6 Diesel Vogue - It is much quicker, uses twice the fuel, has a nicer interior but I did like the Red colour.

The 4.2 is certainly a fun motor to enjoy, the 5.0 interior much different? That red is truly beautiful!

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

The 5.0 is a big upgrade from the 4.2 but the 4.2 is still a great car to me. Whether it is worth to upgrade is all up to you, i.e. is it worth it to you. To me it was plus that I couldn't take my 4.2 out of the country anyway (steering wheel on the wrong side and quite a difficult procedure to export AND it wasn't the most reliable FFRR to start with).

I am very happy with my 5.0 SC MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Honestly... Get the 4.2 or a 5.0 with new tensioners.

I'm going to say the timing gear in the 5.0 is not as reliable with many people reporting issues:

http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/6-range-r...miles.html

The 4.2 and 4.4 are much more reliable in my experience. I couldn't drive my car for months! Our 2006 only had a thermostat bad alternator, fallen window, and new bushings/linkages in over 60,000 miles.

If you can find a 5.0 with new tensioners I would certainly consider it or a 2014+. At some point they fixed the issue with a new design but while helping with my timing my mechanic buddy saw a 3 different 2010-2013 Land Rover 5.0s with timing issues (two L322 5.0 SC and one L320 5.0). He had to rebuild the whole top of one of the engines... he said: If the Oil light comes on, stop the car, if the overheating light comes on stop the car.

Also I would certainly reccomend cutting the OCI to an oil change every 5k-7.5k miles. Other than my engine issues they are beautiful, so I would seek one out that has had the tensioners replaced. OffRoadRover.com An American Western Range Rover Off Road Blog
