I've had the five year old Rover (32029miles) for 16 days now and the DPF Full warning has come up for the second time. It first appeared two days after purchase so I took it for the "20 minute run" and it was perfect afterwards. So after 14 days its back on again, is this normal?

I only do 6-10 miles total most days to work and back in urban traffic so should I expect this as "the norm" or get it looked at for a full technical clean before the three month warranty expires?

If I do have to regularly take it for the "20 minute run over 50mph" regularly due to my low daily mileage how long can I leave the warning before I do so? At least once a month I do a 200 mile motorway trip.

The following applies to the 3.6 TDV8 & presume similar applies to the 4.4litre:
"For drivers who make regular short journeys at low speeds, it may not be possible to efficiently regenerate the
DPF. In this case, the DPF software will detect a blockage of the DPF from signals from the differential pressure
sensor and will alert the driver as follows.
Vehicles with DPF use a high-line instrument cluster to alert the driver to the condition of the DPF via
messages in the message center.
When the DPF becomes full the driver will be alerted to this condition by a message 'DPF FULL SEE HANDBOOK'
accompanied by a handbook symbol. As detailed in the Owners Handbook, the driver should drive the vehicle
until the engine is at its normal operating temperature and then drive for a further 20 minutes at speeds of not
less than 30 mph (48 km/h). Successful regeneration of the DPF is indicated to the driver by the 'DPF FULL SEE
HANDBOOK' message no longer being displayed.
If the DPF software detects that the DPF is still blocked, the message will change to 'DPF FULL VISIT DEALER',
the driver should take the vehicle to an authorized dealer to have the DPF force regenerated."

I do similar daily mileage, had mine for about 10 months now. Never had the message. I Give it a run on faster roads about say once every 5 or 6 weeks....

So I'd say you shouldn't see your DPF message? Just my experience though....

Thank you all for the clarification. Still no warning just shy of two weeks so I guess it will be a bit intermittent according to the official guide you also quoted. Had a previous dreadful EGR issue with my last RRS and I'm probably just a tad twitchy when I see things like this.
Still driving fantastic though!

I've now covered 78,000 miles in my 2012 4.4TDV8, most of this spent on a motorway with no DPF issues. However during periods of annual leave when the car spends a week doing the school run and slow local journeys, I regularly see the 'DPF refer to handbook' message.
A quick blast as per the manual sorts the issue.
