Where to stay in New York?

Hello all.

The four of us are off to New York in the Spring (end April beginning May) and have looked at associated threads. What to do when you are there is well documented but I'm having trouble narrowing down a decent hotel.

We are not after something all singing and dancing but something comfortable and not too close to the noisy times square area but Manhattan is where we want to be.

I've done all the usual search engines but have noticed, every time, the nightly rate bares no resemblance to the total bill and its getting a bit frustrating.. I'm putting the holiday together myself instead of paying a travel agent 2k for the privilege and can get some good flight prices but hotels are so many and varied I'd rather go where someone can say positive things.

Looking for a week in Miami to relax immediately after the week in NY.

Any suggestions for further googling...?

Stayed a few times in the park central, it's right behind Carnegie hall, short walk down to Times Square , found it excellent. We did Miami after as well, we stayed in the metropole in south beach, the mojitos in Gloria Estefan's restaurant were truly knee wobblers, or maybe because we had half a dozen each...

"Four of us" - 2 couples - or with 2 kids ?

I'm usually there on business, but when I took my kids we stayed in the DoubleTree right in Times square which was great - and rooms are all suites so all 4 of us in one room/suite.

I was also influenced by having a stack of Hilton points which is the same chain Whistle

Any decent hotel will be soundproof vs Times Square anyway.....

This hotel is lovely, well located, reasonably priced, highly rated by many travellers and does/ did complimentary wine and cheese every night. Very smart rooftop bar too. Worth considering.

NY Hotel

I go to NY once a month and always stay in The Roger http://www.therogernewyork.com/

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Find the best price online and then call them and ask them to beat it.

It is in a great location away from all the sightseers, but only 10 minute walk from Macy's and Flat Iron building.

Cheers
