Not certain but could be chains going (guides or the tensioner?) shot in the dark but worth checking?

That's not a good sound from one of these, I started my timing chain guide preventative maintenance today to prevent them failing.
As already stated, the plastic timing chain guides fail and drop plastic bits into the sump.
I had a scare when my water pump failed which can make a similar noise, I used an electronic stethoscope to diagnose but you can drop off the drive belt and see if the noise stops but note how it goes on and you may need to remove the fan using the appropriate tools. You could try the old trick of putting a screwdriver tip on it and the handle up to your ear to see if the noise is coming from the water pump but don't chop your face off in the fan

Could be timing chain tensioner but I've not heard of them failing like that.
Sounds too harsh for tappets

I would be careful running it if it is the guides as if it drops a tooth it's game over

You can stop the viscous fan from turning.

Having listened to my noise and yours, mine on idle is a lot faster but not entirely sure what that tells you, maybe because the water pump is geared by the pulleys making it turn faster, yours is in time with the revs.

This was my noise

And the cause

Thanks for the comments, I have looked through the history with the car and there is no sign of a water pump change. I had the car serviced last month and they removed the sump because it was leaking and there wasn't any plastic parts in there. I will remove the sump and have a look

Check water pump first.
Great set of videos there to go on.

Im pretty certain rubbish oil accelerates the guide wear, good quality engine oil is a must.

i think the high temperature that the engine is forced to run at doesn't help the plastic guides either hence the 80 deg mod is going in mine this week also.

Hmm, thinking the water pump idea might be along the right track.sounds like the shaft seals have gone and what you can hear is the bearings not liking being wet.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That could be very good news, mime wasn't leaking but it probably only a matter of time. make sure if it is you get a hella or Behr if you can as the cheap ones are useless i am told
