Phone wiring in boot?

Hi Guys,

my car came with a parrot which is ok... anyway was in the boot looking at the dvd unit for another reason and i noticed a big black plug not connected to anything?? i then notice two kind of aerial plugs next to it... are these prewired for bluetooth? can i just get a unit plug it in and call it a day?

If you are lucky enough to have the pre wiring it isn't too big a job. You'll need a Bluetooth antenna and microphone as well though. Do a search; there's plenty of info on here (or even look on the Bimmernav website).

That sounds more like the wiring for the (analogue) TV receiver with a pair of SMB plugs.
According to your profile your car is a 2002 model, at which time we were only just starting to hear the term 'bluetooth'.

What does the black plug look like?
If it's the 54 pin connector like below it was prewired for non Bluetooth phone but you can use a BMW Bluetooth ulf as long as you check that the plug has been repinned accordingly. As I said, lots of advice on this forum. Try a search for '54 pin connector'.

Search for ulf also.

I fitted it to my td6. Don't really want to reiterate the threads again.

Also have a search for "BMW upgrades" as I tried to link various bits from a single post....

It's worth doing imho.

That plug is meant to go into a telephone control module or TCM that our cars had if you had a phone in it from factory. BMW then made the ulf that did Bluetooth and went in the X5 and 5,series etc, but Land Rover was sold to Ford by then, so it never got fitted to any Rangies. They can be retrofitted though. You need to move about a dozen of the wires in that plug so it will work with the BMW ulf. You have the aerial lead on there, so all you need it a Bluetooth antenna, a microphone for the front a ulf and to rep in the plug. Same with a later digital TVs tuner... It's a straight swap with that unit though!

Have a search, it's all on here....

He doesn't already have a phone in there.... That's why the plug isn't plugged into anything. Most of the cars are pre wired for phone, so the loom is there. The connector for the microphone will be there already, but not the actual microphone....

If that makes sense...

Right off the back of what's being said I've layer my hands on a 10th gen module, a Bluetooth antenna and a mic... I see above you say pins must be swapped then it's pretty much plug and play... which are these and is there a diy? Thanks

It is.... Do a search for ulf. I don't really want to go through it all again. There is no soldering. If you take the plug apart the 2,rows slide apart and the connections are numbered. Use a small screwdriver or bradawl to push the little tag down and you can gently pull the wire out and pop it where it should go.

I bought a new connector from an Audi dealer and just moved the ones across that were needed, used the new plug in the ulf and left the old one dangling.

Others have just repinned the existing one, but don't lose track of where you are.

Job done.

The antenna bolts onto the 2 bolts sticking up above the sat nav frame....

Hi guys just done the repinning and plugged module in then went to do the mic and pulled the cover down but can't find the connector? Any idea where it is - all I can see is the sunroof switch and motor cables?
