So, my worst L322 nightmare. Coming back from the Sahara, after resisting the temptation to take it into the dunes (Thank god) the front offside air spring has deflated and I've air suspension inactive.

The nearest specialist is 260km away over a 2,200 metre mountain pass.

Any suggestions?

2004 4.4 litre BMW V8 with recent air springs all round.

Do you have an IIDTool or similar?

Could be a hole in the air bag, or the height sensor on that wheel (in which case you may be able to effect a repair)?

Have you tried battery reset to clear the fault? If you have a hard fault on the suspension you can only really clear it with a diagnostic tool.

What happens if you drive it? Do you go into a restricted mode?

In extremis, and this was done by the guys who drove from London to India, jack up the car and wedge a length of wood to raise the height of the car at that wheel. Won't be pretty or comfortable but may help you get going. .

Sorry about your predicament.

If you can use the search function, see if you can find a thread by PaddyR along the lines of "Air suspension inactive max speed 30moh", which discusses a deflation problem following a replacement of struts/bags. There are also plenty of other threads on air suspension problems that might help. Separately, see if the wires to the top of the suspension struts under the bonnet are intact - breakage seems a reasonably frequent occurrence and if this has happened on your car then reconnecting/twisting together the separated ends might help.

I'm not sure about the practicalities of driving with one bag deflated, e.g. if it has been punctured by sharp debris. Perhaps one could lower the car to access height and trickle along at under 30mph, admittedly not ideal given the distance you have to travel and one wonders if overheating might be an issue, especially if you travel during the day. If you have the handbook with you, see what it says about that.

I have found Land Rover Assistance helpful in the past, even when not under their warranty, and they might be able to give some advice. The UK number is 0800 521 786, I don't know if that can be accessed from abroad, but maybe a UK contact can call them for you if you can't get them.

Been done before, guy in Australia drove hundreds of miles like it....

Jack the corner up till it's level with the rest, get a large chunk of wood and wedge it in the front suspension to keep it at that height... shouldn't damage anything and will get you home, maybe need a few new fillings in your teeth though..

Well; this spring wasn't changed and looks old.

The interlink valve has been removed and left and right front springs connect direct to the distribution block.

Suspect a leak, but can't hear the compressor running.

All other 3 springs seem fine and at correct height.

We're going to try to inflate the strut manually to see if we can trace the leak, if that's what it is.

Conversion to coils would seem sensible!

Hi MArk, there is a French Specialist, with dedicated workshops and testing facilities in Morrocco you may want to get in touch with. They offer L322 coil conversions kits with on site install, find their details below. They even have a L322 fitted with the whole lot (18's, protection, etc there)

I know them as I Will soon be with them for a trip in morrocco, they also offer Rally assistance, etc.
