There is a rubber mat and a proper liner made of plastic with side lips to stop spillage.

What you need depends on what sort of things you are putting in the boot. I have both.
But unless you expect to have a fair amount of mud and/or maybe some liquid spills in the boot I'd say the plastic tray is overkill. Go for the rubber boot mat.

Mine came with the big plastic one with the edges, good at protecting the boot, pain in the arse if you need to get to anything under the boot floor and stuff slides round on it too much. At least it protects the carpets 2006 Mercedes CLS

But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C...

I also have both the genuine rubber mat and the hard plastic one and tend to leave them both in. Solved the slippyness of the plastic liner by using that non slip mat and some carpet offcuts on the top for the dog, it ain't pretty but it works and who looks in the boot? Discovery 4 HSE
