i am the proud owner of an old lady with low mileage , 40.000 miles, 2002 BMW 4.3L V8 gasoline

i am just back from the yearly technical check and they told me my engine ignition is not well, as they could feel some vibrations from the engine cover , adding that a V8 engine runs so smooth that you should not feel any vibration at all.

i am not a mechanics, but i checked with the IITool and no failure is found about ignition or engine .
idle engine being perfectly steady at 702 rev/mn.

my question is : should I rely on the IITool and consider everything is ok , or should I have the engine further
checked at a dealer ?

Hi, first it's a 4.4 not a 4.3...

Low miles can give more problems than high miles in a lot of ways... I would imagine it will be your injectors that are gummed up, change the fuel filter, put a decent quality injector cleaner in half a tank of fresh petrol and drive it for more than 50 miles at a brisk pace including some full throttle acceleration runs, if that doesn't work then try something like a Terraclean..

Also note that petrol starts to "go off" after about three months, this can cause lumpy running...

There is nothing that can be checked by a dealer that your IIDtool isn't telling you, if you had a misfire or similar you would have a fault code and the MIL light would be on...  Pete
