At the risk of offending a lot of people... Exhaust talk...

Hi guys - a friend of mine has recently got an E53 x5 4.6is... And god it sounds awesome... I then had a little Google and the 4.4 with the stock exhaust system sounds the same... My mind then wandered... Has anyone modified this system to fit the ff? It's almost any sounding and I really want to have a go... Don't get me wrong cruising it's lovely and quite fit down you get the rasp... Have a YouTube and let me know what you think/know

I hate noisy cars but when driving a V8 it SHOULD be heard that it is a V8.

A few years ago I owned a Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L V8 and I missed the V8 sound. Didn't do anything with it but now with a FF TDV8 I am about to correct the exhaust.

As there are only one silencer all the way back I think that cutting the top off, removing some of the muffling stuff and welding the top back on would be a fairly easy way to "repair" the problem.

Good idea? Anyone know how the muffler is built and what to remove? "Plentraktoren/Garden tractor": 2008 L322 TDV8

Not after noise I already have one of those for fun Wink now who can't love that sound

I'm after just a little rasp and volume Andre load but when feathering the throttle a bit of piece that's what the x5 seems to bring Smile

My PO had a dual muffler/exhaust on the RR. Nice rumble without being loud. I think it was Borla stainless.

I did not buy a range rover for it to soung like a sports car,the best part is driving casually down the road and you can hardly hear the engine yet it still sounds good if you floor it.Spoke to a guy the other day with a sport with straight through pipes and tweaked to 450 horses which sounded completely stupid and I do not know how he hadn't been pulled,i just laughed as I could not work out why he hadn't just bought a sports car!

When I got mine, it had (still does) a standard 4.4 BMW exhaust, but with the back box removed, and an aftermarket double twin 'khan' tipped stainless box on it. It looks too young for me, (tips look like beer cans!) but it does make me smile a bit, if I burble it a little in car parks, or Rev it in traffic. ( it seems to rev quicker than a typical 'lazy v8' )
I've considered removing it and returning it to stock, in that I fit an SC back box, so it looks more stock, but nice, though it will sound (more) boring.

I might just fit a pair of plain swept single out pipes, but I haven't had a good look under yet. (With tape measure)
However, if you are looking for a brand new stainless back box, to fit that's similar in looks, you could ring up a Land Rover parts company I have used many times, in the Merton area of south London, called 'Autopost' and in their 'odd parts' display, is a new stainless aftermarket back box, with a price ticket, saying 'was £600, cash price now £150' and it has some dust, (make an offer?) so maybe he might courier it to you after you get some pictures of it. It does have swept single, going to double exits, without chrome tips
It has a sort of flat oval shape to it, unlike the standard crimped curved edge standard shape etc. I didn't see an obvious brand name stamped or dangling from it.

Pasted....
