V5C in Italy, Germany, Switzerland or France

Off on pan-euro trip Monday and v5c is missing from the file, can't find it anywhere? I'm not going to get a copy in time and my ferry leaves at 8am Monday. Can anyone from the above countries tell me how risky it is to drive in those countries without one and are the absolutely necessary?

Many thanks

Well its certainly not worth postponing your trip which is the only other option.....

I do a lot of french miles and have been asked for it once in over 10 years - that was at a random roadside stop where they were pulling people in & checking.

I would have thought a small fine at worst for not having it with you.

I have been stopped by Swiss police in the Van and forgot to take V5c the swiss like to see it for commercial & large campers but not for cars. Anyway providing they can see the cars VIN plate you should be fine if you get asked which is realy unlikely. All car Vignets can be bought at Fuel Stations without documents.

Hardly ever asked in France, BUT if you get stopped for speeding you'll need it otherwise, depending how "kind " they are you'll be punished with another 135 euro for not having it with you.
