Front caliper removal 4.2 s/c

I have searched honest need to know how difficult it is to remove the front callipers in order to replace the discs ?
Have ordered the parts but haven't dabbled with this yet (still trying to finish the p38 ) but need to do the fronts this weekend

I found it quite easy on mine, caution there are scare stories of damage with the alloy calliper being attached and either over torqued, cross threaded, or seized due to galvanic corrosion.

I used plusgas and an 18" breaker bar slowly does it.

They should wind out by hand after the first turn or so with a bar... If you have to start winding the bolts all the way out then I'm afraid sir, your in trouble!

On the flip side, make sure you torque them back up to the correct setting Thumbs Up

One of mine had been slightly cross threaded and was a bit stiff to get off, but went back on and torqued ok, so someone at some point has fubared it.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The bolts are relatively easy, breaker bar does the job nicely. The pins can be a bit of a sod. WD 40 on to them, go away for a brew, then welly the hell out of them, it does help to depress the springs with a screwdriver (need a third hand for this) and make sure that the springs don't catapult themselves away as they get released. All in all not the worst set of discs/pads I've changed, that was the Fiat 127 I had back in thre day! Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)

Apologies for resurrecting this one gents however brake squealing is now so bad at times I have decided to disassemble the fronts for inspection and a good clean. Starting with the offside - I have the pins out and the spring clip (lively Censored that one) but am now wondering do I need to fully undo the two large top and bottom bolts on the rear of the caliper to get the caliper off? I note CTC's comment above - is it just a case of loosening the bolts or do they have to come out.

They are extremely tight at present!!.

I also note a 12mm bolt across the trailing edge of the caliper at mid pad position - does this need removing to?

I've read this thread http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic26123....er+removal where Stan says the calipers can stay in place if its just a pad removal but it looks to me like the pads are too long for the caliper hole to just come out with the caliper in place?
