How to Change front door speaker trim, the one you kick!

Managed to break the front lower speaker trim in the drivers door, had my foot against it as it was windy on top of the Yorkshire Moors, it then blew so hard my foot went through the grille.... rather annoyed, I know it's an off roader but I like it nice inside... had a look and it is heat welded to the door card, didn't think for one minute you could buy it on it's own but JLR like to surprise and for £20 Dan sent me a brand new one in the right colour... Thumbs Up

It's pretty easy to change so thought I would do a How To for it...

First job is to remove the door card, plenty of info on that about including several videos on you tube.

Lay the door car on a well padded area. This is the back of the grille, you can see the little mushroom heads where it's been melted on..

You need something to get the heads off, I used a Dremmel but you could do it with pliers or even an angle grinder... you want it looking like this, you also need to remove the 10mm nut above the red plastic bit on the first picture as the grille is held by the wood strip along the top of the door bin

Ease the wood trim forward and then prise out the grille

This is where the grille slides under

Then fit the new grille, mine had been kicked a few times as well and was pretty tatty...

Turn it over and fix it on, you could use super glue, I used hot glue, make sure the grille is pressed hard into the door card and hasn't got any gaps around it, refit the 10mm nut.

Refit the door card, (TIP) If the black plastic window trim that sits between the top of the door card and the window has come loose or moved then refit it to the door first and ensure the clips are in the correct place, it's obvious when you look at it.

Job done, I forgot a pic of it fitted but you know what it looks like.... The new one is slightly darker than the rest of the door card as it's spent 13 years fading but it's not bad and looks fine, much better than the broken one Thumbs Up

You could also melt the heads of the studs with a soldering iron to fix it on. But as you've shown there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Yes mate, million ways to get it off and get it on, I did it with hot glue so it can be taken off easily with a hot air gun next time I break it.... Rolling Eyes Pete

Did the new speaker grille come with 11 new studs to fit it or do you have to get those separately? 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black
