Air Suspension

The fatty has been sitting for the last 3 1/2 months and when started in Thursday, for the first time, all seemed well. A few miles later and up comes a suspension fault warning. Over the last few days we've had a number of warnings:

Suspension fault
Suspension fault restricted to 30 mph
Not raising quickly enough.

So off it went to the indy today and diagnosed as a bleedin great hold in the offside front airbag. New bag has been ordered and will be fitted tomorrow along with an MOT. MOT was booked tomorrow anyway at a local garage so they'll just do it at the indy once the bag is all sorted.

To save more stress on the compressor they've kept the fatty and sent me on my way in one of their executive limo's: a 135k miles manual Disco 2 Embarassed but by tomorrow evening I'll have a shiney new airbag and a shiny new MOT. Oh, almost forget, an empty wallet. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

Should really be changed in pairs as the shock absorber is integral and it is not good practice to just change one...

Also if one failed, the other won't be far behind... Big Cry

FYI It is widely agreed that the Delphi ones, which is OEM, are far superior to the Dunlop ones... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

Haylands will know a lot more about this than I do, but when my 2004 4.4 burst an airbag the dealer just changed that one (this when the car was maybe 7 yrs old) and there were no problems with any of the bags during the remaining 2 1/2 yrs or so I had it. Only Range Rovers since 1988

It's good engineering practice to change them in pairs, no matter what people say about gas filled shocks being OK... they will wear, they are a consumable and not designed to last the life of the car so even a one year old one will have a reduced effect under emergency braking, even if one side dips slightly more than the other this can effect braking... personally I think it's worth the cost to change the pair...

As to bursting... well yes the other one could last for years but "usually" if one goes the other isn't far behind...

If you don't plan on keeping it long or this month has lasted longer than the money then just get one... Thumbs Up Pete

I had a similar situation and replaced both not because of the bag but because of the shocks as has been said its good engineering to replace in pairs if for no other reason than to keep the suspension properly balanced.
