This stuff works, I know from experience, you do it once and it lasts for years, did my old XC70 with it and it is superb....

I have had success with "Black Chrome" (from Halfords) used on my wing mirror support covers. Takes a few coats, but then suddenly it all goes black! Need to tackle the scuttle too, tempted to remove it to get better access to the nooks and crannies. .

Tim, apart from the 4 obvious clips there are 10 clips at the top just below the screen that are moulded into the panel, when they changed my screen the guy used a proper trim removal tool but every single one snapped.... I guess at the age of ours they are getting very brittle....

I don't remember any problems when I removed prior to windscreen change a few years ago. Maybe I was lucky? I do remember the popper clips flying all over the drive (not easy to find on 30mm gravel - I probably have half a socket set out there somewhere ). There is also the "goo" strip at the bottom of the screen to contend with, and also can't remember if the wiper blocks have to come off (the ones you need a removal tool for) .

That stuff that Haylands mentioned (Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer) is surperb, just done the wife's Mini (OK, a trail before doing my RR) great stuff & easy to use. Buy the bigger bottle though, once you start.............

Or groundnut oil works a treat too! Just don't use a lot and it turns faded plastic back to black and lasts ages longer than the stuff you buy from halfrauds and alike! Probably not as good as the gtech stuff but at a fraction of the cost it's worth trying! |

Strawberry jam works as well, so does olive oil... lasts as long as peanut butter and groundnut oil as well....
