Dash and running board question

firstly the dash nice I've had it off has about an 8mm gap above the glovebox even though all screws are in - any ideas?

Next my running boards don't look clipped together properly is there a way to do this?

Does the front of the dash move if you try to lift it, it slides back on and the screws stop it moving, but you can miss the clips that locate it and get the screws in, if you can lift the front edge at all then it needs refitting....

Haven't a clue on the side steps, probably rust under there pushing them apart, they do seem to rust well.... Pete

My side steps are a lot worse than that! MOT on Monday so will have to do some fixing to avoid "dangerous bodywork"! Laughing .

If its a LR factory / dealer fit step....The side steps are in three pieces. The metal frame that hangs off the car, the rubber step and the lower silver plastic trim.

The rubber step has rubber lugs protruding downwards ( towards the floor) that engage into similarly sized slot shaped holes in the metal frame. If the rubber has lifted, you may need to push( or hammer ) the rubber step downwards so the lugs go back into the slotted holes. You should be able to feel the holes if you put you hand under the step.

Be careful not to damage the delicate plastic silver trim as theyre £64 each to replace. The trim can be removed before pushing ( or rubber malleting) the rubber back down into place by undoing the dozen or so screws along its length. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

There could be mud/debris under the rubber which will peel back to check, or the small screws that hold that piece of plastic trim on are missing or corroded. Or as above it might just be kna Censored ed.

Most likely the small ferrous screws have corroded and fallen away Wink .

Had a good look at side steps this morning, and performed a bodge repair (they will be coming off soon for some body work repairs, so will probably replace, so this was to stop them falling off altogether!)

The silver outer trim is held on all along with self tappers into a plastic fixing which pushes up into the outer rail. The plastic fixing is pushed into a small L bracket which is spot welded onto the main rail. In my case all these spot welds have rusted away. If I could have been arsed I would have removed the trim, drilled out and refitted the L brackets for a clean finish.

However I just drilled three holes through the silver trim into the main rail and fixed with 2in domed self tappers (sorry purists) .
