Though your mechanic is slightly mistaken there are several procedures which are in the manual for the Dd295. One is to split and reveal the casing, this is because you have to split it apart to change the input and output shaft seals, which are a fixable bit. Also also the hi low pos sensor, the chain and the solenoid can be swapped. Beyond that it is a matter of throw it away and start again.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
