Fuel consumption 5.0 SC real life

I am doing some calcs but I don't have an accurate fuel consumption for the 5.0 SC in normal day to day mixed use UK driving (since I hardly ever driven it in the UK). There is a chance that I may be relocating there (pending on job interviews etc.) so I'd like to do some numbers whether it is more sensible to get a cheap small LPG or EV over using the SC for commuting.

What sort of number are you guys getting in your SCs ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Average over what I do is about 18 Bud. That's a mix of long motorway runs, messing around in town and towing a caravan. I've never reset the thing and it's showing 18.2, which is over the 9k miles since I bought it.

A long motorway run will see 26 at around the speed limits, town driving is about 20 and towing gives 14 ish.

For me I think it is the case that you drip feed it at the pumps and get a standard service bill (£300) whereas my previous diesels did better MPG but were always over a grand come service time.

I use a cheap work hack for the commute though as it is anonymous in the car park (important when you're a contractor) and it keeps the silly mileage off the FFRR. Not that I can't afford to run the RR for work but 60k miles a year would ruin it. They're not exactly bullet proof. Laughing

Mine is averaging 15.2 thats a mix of motorway and town. I also have a mini cooper s which gets 28 mpg but for some reason I use the FF all the time! The mini has only done 3,000 miles in a year!

Rapidly thinking I ought to looking for an SC to replace our old (2003) 4.4 V8!! I'm getting max 12.9 towing a horse box with 2 big horses (total around 2.5 tonnes) and I've never seen more than 18.5 on a run without towing!! Drives:

I get around 20, disappointed if it drops below 18.
Currently it is 18 but I am waiting for a sticking calliper to be replaced can't have it done until next Wednesday. Not the Indy's fault they would do it tomorrow but its the earliest, convenient time for me. Very Happy Geoff

Thanks guys for the feedback. I will do the numbers based on 18 as i will mostly drive A roads at a leasurely pace by the looks of things. I also have the motorbike for nice days (MPG not too bad for a 180 bhp monster Smile ). The commute will be in the range of 40 miles a day (8800 per annum) so not too bad.

Looking at a cheap Nissan Leaf commuter would be roughly 3 years before it has paid back for itself (assuming 6000 to buy and saving approx. 2000 per annum over using the FFRR).

Than I'd be using the FFRR probably at least once a week for work and on the weekends and for long trips in the UK and to mainland Europe. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Maybe a cheap older LPG car then for piling on the miles.

Every time I've seen someone work out what miles they do for work in a year it's generally a good bit more and a 40mile commute will be at least a 50min journey roughly so a lot of weather wear on the vehicle which is generally from the salt in the cooler months and then tonnes of stone chips as well... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I guess I get similar to the others but I am too busy listening to that supercharger whine to care about mpg.

Note: I really should be concerned about mpg but the pros outweigh the cons 😆 "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

I looked at that but then it makes a lot more sense to buy a Nissan Leaf as they're much cheaper to run than LPG and not that much more expensive second hand. Plus lower maintenance as well. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Average 19.5 mpg but 25 mpg on long trips. That includes the need to floor it at least once on every trip just for the hell of it Thumbs Up 2012 5.0L S/C
