2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Alternative/Additional Sat Nav

So even on my 2011 VSE the inbuilt satnav is pretty poor (to put it mildly)

Does anyone have any photos of alternatives that they have used that still looks fairly smart and doesn't ruin the cabin with wires etc?

I was considering a tom-tom mounted to the right of the steering wheel, or possilbly using the iphone on some sort of brodit/vent mount.

What have others done (apart from grin an bear it?)

Thx

United Kingdom

i've used the FF sat nav in the UK and europe without any problems but i do have a supplementary sat nav as well which i use for its speed warnings which are very handy when in an unknown area..
its a very cheap chinese jobby [ebay £23] with up to date igo primo maps on it ..

i've mounted it on the centre dash vent mount so its not 'in your face' on the windscreen..the wiring is tucked in between the panelling and plugged into the rear centre console power socket.

some pics of the nav mounted in my old SC,

I would suggest a mini iPad which would sit where your screen is (with a little sticky pad on the back to help it stay on)

I use WAZE, a free app which uses live user intel to select route and gives ETA, en-route changes when alerts come in etc.

Yes, agreed there. The standard FFRR Nav map and user interface is cra*p (mine is 2007 SC) to put it mildly. My wife uses the TomTom app on her iPhone in a screen mounted iPhone holder which gives current and regular mapping updates but I prefer Google Maps on my iPhone. TomTom is very battery hungry necessitating a plug in lead for power where Google Maps nowhere near as much battery appetite and for my opinion an even easier user interface.

Mounting in the air vent nearest driver like Stan's picture masks the AC vent which is a bit annoying but a screen mount to far edge of screen near A pillar is great and also enables ease of phone use when legal of course.
