Brake Pedal to the Floor this morning!

Sunday spent hours washing and cleaning FFRR.
Mon Tue & Wed it sat on the drive whilst I used the Audi Cab due to the sunny weather.
Thu morning a bit misty so decided to take the FFRR
Started first time pulled off the drive and could hear rotational drubbing coming from the front
reached the end of the close and braked to check both ways

Pedal went to the floor! Shocked Shocked

Pumped a few times and got some pressure and brought car to a stop.
Popped the bonnet, fluid fine
Checked below no leaks
Tested pedal, holding firm.
Continued on journey, (drubbing noise now stopped) giving a bit more space to vehicle in front and regular testing of braking.
All fine

A typical morning with an FFRR Twisted Evil .

Take all of the plastic mud shields off underneath to expose the front to back brake pipes.
I think you will be horrified to see just how badly corroded they are.
Most older models would fail the MOT if they were checked properly.
Cunifer is the way to go.

We had our 07 ffrr on service and MOT (Norwegian equivalent) on Monday - had to replace the brake pipes due to corrosion. The brake pipes were replaced with copper ones, these should at least not fail due to corrosion.
You should check the brake pipes, Joe!

P.S: But after the repair the break pedal is spongy - my guess is that the indy haven't got all the air out when bleedimg the system.

@ Baltic Blue & Eirik34 - guess you didn't see my brake pipe replacement howto Thumbs Up

@stan - not touched it since doing all the pipes. All I can think of is that I have a sticky caliper somewhere, that stuck "on" and over the three days a void developed. The handbrake was certainly stuck on but this shouldn't affect the disc brakes. Perhaps the servo needed to build pressure? Brakes are working fine now no sponginess or anything. Maybe worth a dive into Joe's Tools of fame and do another Eazi-Bleed? .

This won't have helped!

Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Changed over all my wheels this Saturday (General AT2s finally worn away too much tread for the looming MOT, but they have given me @ 50,000 miles of service so 1p a mile, not a bad TCO!) and spotted the front pads were right down! Not enough wear on the inside pad to set off the sensor, but the outer one nearly down to the metal on both sides of the car. Surprised it stopped at all Wink Quick trip to Europarts Sunday morning for some new Pagids and all better in that department now!

If of interest, I fitted new discs (non LR) and new Mintex pads to the front in July 2010 some 60,000 miles ago. Discs doing fine.

Also if it helps the early TD6 (BMW) have the ATE/Teves calipers. The pads have the "sticky out ears" .
