Had an issue today with my 4.2 SC. under normal driving conditions it showed transmission fault limited gears only. Stopped the car, started it again and all was well.

On the return run home, same fault occurred but only showed on the binnicle for 10 seconds or so. Carried on driving a short distance but I believe the car stayed in 3rd gear. This was evident while trying to park on my drive which is fairly steep as the revs were rising but it appeared the car wouldn't pull its self up the drive? Turned car off for 30 secs and all appears well again.

I've read a few posts that point towards battery, radiator or torque converter.

I'm going to change the battery anyway and I don't mind changing the rad but I'm struggling to accept that the torque converter as this would not reset ??

I believe it's either electrical or pod the radiator related trans cooling issue??

Any advice??????

Well known for the lower half of the main rad to get clogged up (this is the bit that helps cool the transmission), but could also point to the oil cooler for the transmission (which is fed by the main rad).

What do you know about the transmission oil and pipework?

Do you have IIDTool to check gearbox oil temperatures? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Hi there, yea I've read a few stories about the radiator causing an issue.
I've looked at pics of the trans oil cooler but as of yet havnt looked at it in situ on the car. I havnt got the tool so in unable to monitor temps.

As far as I'm aware all pipe work is original equipment.

There are so many potential causes of this error (fluid temperature isn’t usually one of them) that it really would make sense to get the fault codes read to see exactly what issue has been detected by the controller.

I agree, I've used the car today for work and it ran faultlessly.

A long shot but are there any members on here that are based in the midlands with the correct code reader that would be willing to read my fault codes??
