Coolant system pressurising - please help

I have my new (1 month new to me) 2002 4.4 V8 BMW FFRR that has been throwing up a check coolant message since the first week of owning it. I've had the top hose replaced and was still getting the message. Ive taken it into a LR specialist, who has informed me that the coolant system is pressurising and air from the combustion chamber could be getting into the system, it has 69,000 on the clock. Super low miles and has been well looked after it seems. It has a BRC LPG system if that means anything.

Can anyone please shed some light on this, i really don't want to have to replace the engine on a car i have just bought. Very sad as this is my first RR and i love the car. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You or rather the garage need to check coolant for hydrocarbons.
LPG gas could also be getting into the coolant.

Very unlikely to need a new engine or even much work... read these threads, this is the problem with garages that don't understand the quirkyness of the FF...

They pressurise more than most systems so mis-diagnosis is common...

Get it looked at by a Range Rover specialist if you can't check things yourself... Thumbs Up Pete

had all these probs with mine found a leak at elbow joint at rear of engine also expansion tank do not remove cap when hot or you will cause an airlock and have to bleed system these rangerovers have a pretty high pressure system and are a bit troublesome m62 engine pretty bullitproof though. and unless the garage you are using is up to speed on these cars they are pretty much feeling in the dark get someone who has experience with them to work on it or it will cost you lots however these cars are great and i would not be without mine quirky or not you will learn a lot if you keep her hope this helps

Hi Angus.

Here's my little bit of input.
1, the check coolant message can mean a) the coolant is the wrong type or the wrong concentration. Is yours blue or pink?
2, the little coolant sensor is about a fiver and and easy to fit part, change it (you'll always need a spare anyway).
3, these m62 engines run at stupid temperatures and pressures. old hoses leak, split, blow off, the coolant tank can split etc. You need to keep the coolant system in tip top condition especially running on gas.
4, once you've checked these, make sure you under fill rather than over fill the coolant level, Mine is just on the 'minimum ball mark' on the stick.

let us know how you get on.

Failing that lot, I highly recommend Andy at Hilton Autogas, Wolverhampton, 01902 866266. Thumbs Up
