Can anyone explain this?

My tdv8, when in park I start the car, raise the revs to 1100 and hold it there it rises and fall between 1100 and 1200 revs by its self up and down, up and down for about 30 seconds then bong bong all the faults pop up and it drops into limp mode.
Dose it every time.
Any ideas ?

Could be all sorts to be honest. Would need to know what fault codes are being reported by the computer to give a starter for 10.

Is it doing it from cold starts ? or does it do it all the time?

Engine ECU's will go through a warm up procedure when starting from cold that includes holding the revs artificially higher than normal idle, then it'll bring back the revs as the engine warms up. If you are blipping the throttle during that time frame, you are fighting against the ECU a little for control of the engine, and some cars don't really like that. Just let it do its thing in such cases.

If its doing it all the time on start up, then i'd be looking initially at the air flow meter or throttle body. Those are the items which most commonly affect the fine control of the revs and if they aren't quite 100% then can give symptoms similar as you describe.

But, as before, getting the error codes is the place to start. V8 or else ...

Thanks for the replies, sorry it took so long been away for the weekend. Came back today and can't get it to lock out now but on a small drive round the village it did it twice.. Seems to be a t low revs.
Anyway I need to talk to the mechanic you looked at it last time it did it he said he found a doggy connection but he's not back from Spain till Tuesday.
Codes are all to do with low/high fuel pressure which is the same problem as last time.
Some people are stupid, looking back through the history on this car it's had 5 high pressure fuel pumps fitted, surly someone would think hang on its not the pump it's something talking to it that's faulty.
After speaking to the chap when back from his holiday if no luck I will give you a bell Craig and book it in.
Thanks Dave

Just under half tank but started doing it with over half a tank. When it was doing the same thing two months back it would do it at any state of tank.
