Nah, more boring than watching the lawn grow. Bring back the glory days of Gilles Villeneuve, Keke Rosberg, Alain Prost, Riccardo Patrese and of course the fabulously exciting Rene Arnoux. Those were proper racers with damn fast turbocharged cars, real racing with overtaking half a dozen times a lap in some cases. A world apart from the processional boredom and utter waste of petrol which is the modern F1.

Oh, and i couldn't stand the whining Brummie Mansell either. Never did anything beyond an era when the Williams car was king. Stupid tache as well.

Greatest driver of all time for me was Ayrton Senna, closely followed by Gilles Villeneuve.

Jim Clark used to race F1 in the morning. Saloon cars in the afternoon and still find time for a game of charades in the evening Thumbs Up

Sorry but Hamilton was fantastic today and we should celebrate having someone of his talent. To push that hard in those conditions was simply mind boggling.

Some of the things he does annoys me for sure but then so do things that my similarly aged sons do. He's young, very talented and he is very quick and his lifestyle choices don't seem to adversely affect his performance. Personally, I'm proud of him and believe he hasn't finished winning world titles yet. And for what it's worth, James Hunt who was a great character wasn't too dissimilar to Lewis in his lifestyle choices.

Thumbs Up basil

Hamilton is the most successful British driver of all time. Mansell second and yes Hamilton drove a great race today, a bit of rain soon sorts them out.

Basil I am not disputing Hamiltons talent or his abilty to become a legend, but as a layman he is boring, which I am sure will be a HUGH concern to him Rolling with laughter

Used to watch lots of F1, yet for the last maybe ten years I've only watched Monaco
Planned to do exactly that today but caught the "Historic Monaco" on C4 this morning - brilliant evocative cars !
That did it for me - didn't bother with todays race . . .

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

it's not the current crop of drivers' abilities and style, it's the rules, that have changed. The cars are quieter, Evil or Very Mad the engines don't blow up like the old 80's turbo era. Razz drivers are safer, Razz unlike the 60-70's era.
Rose tinted glasses aside, we get some beautiful camerawork/angles/slowmotion, almost every piece of action, rolling positions/split times. we know when the tyres are to be changed, and even what tyres are chosen. the drivers today, are at their peak of fitness. there are some mavericks, and some d!ickheads on the grid, like the Maldonado's of past years, and masters like Vettel/Hamilton/Alonso, that can think tactics, (like Hamitons' tyre change delay, that consequently led him to the lead/win today) and at the same time run against Armco/emerging dry lines/'wall of champions' whilst changing their brake bias, fuel mixture/ at the same time.
Just take a moment to think of all the work that goes into the progression of these cars, back at HQ, and the development and design, through new rules etc.
It's not just boring looking drivers.
maybe the new idea of qualifying should be re-introduced, as cars won, they would have grid penalties, and may have brought more watch-ability.
what ever happens, in this sport..everyone gets rich!

There's no doubting Lewis Hamilton's talent, nobody wins F1 championships just by being average but I feel that today's Monaco race wasn't won by Hamilton but lost by an appalling pit stop for Daniel Ricciardo who is right to be very annoyed about it. A classic example of an own goal by a team who should know better.

I do also agree that F1 races have become much less exciting in recent years. At one time I used to religiously sit and watch every race on a Sunday afternoon, undisturbed by the rest of the family. Now, I tend to record and watch them later and usually when I am doing something else (looking at FFRR.com for example).
