Bought a Nissan....

OK.... Not to replace the fatty though....

Deb's Audi TT has the DSG 6 speed gearbox and they are about as reliable as an FF, the Mechatronic Valve body thingamebob spat it's dummy out and went into limp mode... 1st gear only, no reverse....

Took sodding ages getting it out the box, really is tight in there, sent it off and unfortunately it's totally broken and they cant fix it, a new one is £1,800 so didn't want to go that route, I've found another from an A3 in Europe which will be sent to the ECU repairs place and they "should" be able to swap the software so it will work, should end up costing less than a third the price of a new one so hope it's worth the gamble... it's likely to be at least two weeks till it's over here and reprogrammed...

Anyway it's sods law, she's had the TT for three years and had just decided to change it anyway....

I've been running her about or she's nicked the FF and I've got fed up with taking her to work so we decided to buy a little run around... boy there are a lot of cheap cars around these days...

So here is what we picked up yesterday

A 2002 Nissan Almera Tino SE+ 1.8 twin cam

It's got 11 months MOT, had a new front caliper and battery for the MOT, they were asking £400, on the test drive the MIL came on... threw a cheeky offer in at half price and we settled on £250.

Everything works as it should and a plug in of an OBD reader shows the post cat lambda is at 0 volts, new one with the correct plug ordered from China for £17, aerial mast is missing and the gearknob is broken, £2 for the aerial and £5 for a pretty gearknob Deb likes and it's sorted

I told her we'll sell the TT and she can keep it.... she nearly agreed... Laughing Laughing

Just can't believe what you can pick up for peanuts.....

Bangernomics Pete, just can't beat it. Thumbs Up

That's why I'm running a 2006, 200k mile Skoda as a work hack. Free motoring and keeps the miles off the fatty. Not to mention keeping a low profile in the company car park, always a good idea as a contractor.

Brilliant bargain there Pete - I bought my sister a newer focus to replace her older focus which she then asked me to get rid of. I have been loving driving it around and just parking it in spaces and not worrying if some large person is dooring it. The dog loves it too as he is allowed in the front seat to stick his head out the window, in the FF he would be confined in the back.

Darren.

Interesting

David Cameron has just bought a blue Nissan Micra for his Mrs as a £1500 run around for his constituency in Witney!

Well done Pete - you are right so many cheap cars now.

I too was looking for a cheap run-around earlier this month and ended up with the Citroen Synergie for £400 (see earlier post).

Had a turbo fault which was cleared by hammering it down the motorway in 3rd at 4500rpm for 10 miles. Pulls like a train now.

2001MY , 2Ltr bullet proof HDI 8V PSA engine, huge boot to take stuff to the tip and camping. It is based on a van so totally flat load space.

And best of all my 4yr old daughter can clamber all over the inside while eating icecream and spilling drinks, without shouts of "Get your feet off the leather" Howard
