Door mirror puddle lights

Neither of the lights under my door mirrors work. Is there a particular set of circs when they should they come on? Or are they bust and the bulbs need replacing. Or is something you need an IID tool for.
Ta everyone. Travelling around in circles again.

I am trying to find out why my Approach Lights dont work. I have checked that the bulbs are ok. I understand they come on for a limited time when doors are unlocked which mine dont. Should they work on a HSE or do they need to be turned on by diagnostics. 2007 TDV8 VSE

I think it is one of the options that you can turn off via an OBD tool.
