Whistle This isn't helping poor Rosco.....

I think that a good read of the husqvarna manual is needed, just to make sure that there isn't anything about oil type, other than 2 stroke........

Didnt see your post Miggit, at no point was it STRESSED in capital letters that you must use either Husqvarna or Stihl oil, and indeed only some Stihl oils are suitable, I have 3 other chainsaws and they run on the same stuff quite happily, now knowing what I know I can understand the point but it should be in large letters across the front of the manual IMHO Thumbs Up

I found this in their manual section

"Two-stroke oil
• For best results and performance use HUSQVARNA
two-stroke engine oil, which is specially formulated for
our air-cooled two-stroke engines. Mixture 1:50 (2%).
• If HUSQVARNA two-stroke oil is not available, you
may use another two-stroke oil of good quality that is
intended for air cooled engines. Contact your dealer
when selecting an oil.
• Never use two-stroke oil intended for water-cooled
outboard engines, sometimes referred to as outboard
oil.
• Never use oil intended for four-stroke engines."

So unless the 2 stroke oil that you've been using actually says only for water cooled engines, you should be alright... I know the oil came from your local garage.. what brand was it? Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

No worries bud..... Whistle now there are a few phrases that you need..... "Consumer Rights Act" is a good one, and "Not fit for purpose" can reap good results too....

The fact that the oil you have says its good for chainsaws and husqvarna don't specify an exact standard of oil should be enough to get them to foot the bill... It's normally in the weasel words, and in this case there aren't any Very Happy

That section came from page 20 of the manual that I downloaded for the 450, if you still have your manual it is worth checking that the Fueling section is the same, and if it is you've got'em Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Whistle might extend their life if you get some of the Stihl 2 stroke oil... As NMJ said just add to a can of 5Lt and shake Thumbs Up

I used to squeeze the stihl bottle, dip the top in to the fuel and suck some fuel back up, just to clean out the container Very Happy Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thumbs Up

FYI that was the best deal that I could find, the place that i used to get the oil from when I was in the plant game wanted £16+ delivered Shocked

You might be able to negotiate a better deal direct from a Stihl agent, but I have my doubts Rolling Eyes Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I am going to wait for a definitive answer from Husqvarna before I buy anything meanwhile using my 'less costly' saws to cut. Thanks for all the help guys, looking forward to my discussion with them should they not cover it under warranty Thumbs Up

I was looking again at a Stihl handbook and see that they specify a different mix ratio for Stihl oil and other high quality two-stroke engine oil, Stihl is 50:1 while other oil is 25:1. If Husqvarna is the same this might account for the extra wear you have experienced. Only Range Rovers since 1988

So had a call from Husqvarna dealer this morning, saw will be back to me tomorrow, total cost included 4 litres of their oil (which I ordered), a new chain (which I ordered) and a new spark plug (which I didnt order), piston rings were replaced under warranty so all in all I am happy so far, lets see if its back to normal !! Meanwhile the guys are cutting like banshees with the cheapo chinese ones Rolling with laughter
