KEY NOT TURNING FIXED BUT FOR HOW LONG??

This has recently started on my car (missus moaning she can;t start the car due to key not turning)

anyhoo a search finds this is quitE a common problem and a few here have suffered this pain also.

there appear to be two fixes

1 drill hole in steering column lock casing and lubricate with wd40 or such like

2 fit fused switch to fuse 18

I have went and drilled the casing of the locking mechanism and lubricated with wd40 and the problem has been sorted (so far )

this leads to my question for those who've carried out the same job

how long does this fix work for in general ??

tia

There was a long thread on another forum in which a guy opened the column ECU which contains the lock solenoid. The magnets within had broken up, and he got some new ones. I think Haylands is trying the same. Should be a permanent fix.

yes I recall reading that thread , I'm hoping that in my case the lube will have sorted it .I have tried about 50 key operations and it hasn't failed to operate correctly once since copious amounts of wd40 were squirted in there
