Test drive booked for 1pm today, I will leave cheque book and credit cards at home and try not to buy it just because of the dual screen and TFT dash! I'll let you know what I think..... Current MY2020

I took the test drive in the new 4.4 TDV8 for 30 minutes, a few country lanes and the motorway and all the way I was comparing it with my 2006MY Charger as I would.

The engine was smooth and as you would expect with an 8 speed box, the gear changes from 3 onwards were very smooth. In terms of acceleration and power, not that different from my SC.

There was not as much body roll as the SC and it drove more like a car than a 3 ton tall 4x4, but this may be because it was new and tight.

The paddle shifts were not really necessary, but through a twisty bend, I knocked down 2 shifts, accelerated and it stepped out...not what I was expecting at all.

What I did notice was feeling every stone on the road through the tyres, just like run flats on a BMW. I'm now thinking that the tyres were an issue.

As for fuel comsumption, it was showing an average of 28mpg, better than my 18mpg on the charger.

Yes the TFT screen and sat nav were very smart, but these novelties soon wear off.

So, £72,000 for a new one and £25,000 trade in for my SC with 36,000 on the clock...is it worth it...probably not at the moment, I may just wait until next year and look again. Current MY2020

AMD,

Thank you for your review, most interesting.

For me, the 4.4 TDV8 is the perfect all rounder.

Just have to sit on my hands and wait for some 2/3 year old ones as I just cannot stomach the deprecation hit fresh out of the showroom floor.

Look forward to reading some other users reviews as and when. -Michael

Yes, I would agree, the perfect all rounder.

One other thing, I thought the quality of the switching, dials, stalks just weren't to the same quality of my earlier vehicle..maybe this would also explain Micks comments about the seats not being as bolstered...is the quality being compromised as the Land Rover brand becomes more designer in it's styling? Current MY2020

AMD,

I certainly hope not, I'd hate to see a compromise in quality in the hope to make the RR more appealing to the fashion conscious, isn't that what the Evoque is for?

I've just been having a nose on the LR website and noticed the reclining rear seats, I'm sure the family would appreciate that. -Michael
