Quick question fitting trailer brakes tomorrow. to a TDV8 Vogue SE 2008

Now on the US Spec LR3 they have a relay connection under the steering column wish links into the tow pack in the rear

has the UK spec car got the same thing anyone seen it ????

The majority of UK non-commercial trailers have mechanical brakes, the US have electric ones hence the extra hook up.

As to is it in the loom I have no idea.

Never found it on mine Zig. Maybe the connector was tucked up out of the way but I did have all those trims off to get a cable through the bulkhead and I never saw it.

Presumably this is for the Aussie electric braking system so might be good to ask an Aussie dealer.

I sorted out my wiring for electric brakes on my 2003, not sure if yours are the same but search on rr.net for all the info. I fitted the brake controller ( Techonsha ) just above the obd2 opening by your right knee. The activation feed is taken from the light control module , lower right pillar close by. Run a wire from the controller to the trailer plug. You then need to sort out the trailer plug wiring and mod the outputs from the trailer module in the right rear wing or when you turn the sidelights on the trailer brakes will come on full strength . All quite easy when you follow the how to`s. One thing I could not sort was the issues with led trailer lights, after many hours I gave up and fitted old school lamps to stop the constant flashing caused by the light module test voltage. It can be done but I put it in the not worth the effort section. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Thanks for all the replies, the TDV8 is a Uk car I brought back with me to Oz

All I have found out is that the NAS (yank Spec) LR3's have a connector for electric trailer brakes under the dash by the column you hook your trailer brake controller into this and it then hooks into the trailer module in the back of the car
easy simpils hooking up trailer brakes
No wires to run to the back of the car.

I know its there on the yank cars but is it there on the UK spec cars, I would suspect so as the harness would be all the same just different plugs used for the different markets

Dom was there anything looking like a gray plug you can remember when you were poking about around the steering
column??

Hi Zig, not that I can recall mate. I can check again although I now have a 2011 car which has different looms.

I know you took yours over from the UK so it's not a true Aussie spec car and in the EU we have to have overrun brakes by law. Electric brakes are illegal in the EU which makes me think the wiring will not be there on yours.

That said, it shouldn't be hard to rig up. You would need to see the wiring diagrams really and see where the Aussie model differs from the UK one. Perhaps Craig at Camtech might know, or failing that try Colin at Blackbox. Not sure if the GAP guys have gotten antipodean on us yet but clever chaps so worth asking. They will certainly have access to the wiring diagrams which is a good start.

Hi, I don't know if post 2006 models are different but for 2003 - 2006 you need to splice into the blue/black wire at connector C0380 pin number 9 on the Trailer Control Module for the Brake signal (or at the other end of this wire at C0937 pin 10 on the main Light Control Module). See here -

Honestly unsure if it has it or not.

I know that for years LR have pretty much fitted a single loom to all vehicles as it is cost effective to fit the same loom to all vehicles rather than custom looms. Only difference is LHD and RHD.

Whether they still do this or not again I'm unsure.

Failing this if it just requires a 12v to the socket for when you brake you could run a cable to the tow socket and fit your own relay. The brake lights would activate the relay and the higher power cable you installed would activate the trailer brakes.

I don't have a problem with fitting the T/B done lots of em running the wire down to the back

It was just a thought it would be much quicker if the plug was up front

Anyhow Wednesday is the day if its there I'll find it

On another not while lookin on the net for the T/B stuff

I came accross a Ford part that stops the LED's flashing on trailers simple plug into car between trailer and Ha Presto

no flashing LED's on the trailer

Its for the ford Ranger cost me $47 bucks in sydney
