Friend of mine is interested in this RR, anyone know what happens/any pitfalls if you buy a repossessed vehicle ?

The only thing that would concern me is, if the previous owner was unable (unwilling) to keep up with finance, what else has been neglected.

Apart from that, presumably the finance company is selling it, there wouldn't, IMHO, be any problem with the sale. John

No link.....

Cant see that there would be many pitfalls, especially if you changed the plate so the previous (jealous) owner couldn't find it......

The paperwork all needs to be in order the HPI needs checking carefully, If repossessed by the finance company, it was technically their vehicle to start with so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. However if it was repossessed by bailiffs acting on a different matter, then that needs further investigation, as the finance company will have first charge over the car and as such if the bailiffs were to sell it off without covering the debt to the finance company, that outstanding debt would remain in place and you would be liable for it as the new owner. Just like buying private where finance was outstanding..

thats my understanding of it....... could be wrong though as I'm a bit dim.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

there is also the small chance, that the previous owner still has a key...... a look at the logbook tells you the chanes of him driving past it everyday though.

its a very small chance...

Thats an awful lot of money for the risk!

I would think he could find a choice of SC’s of that age for that money with a cast iron history Shocked Rolling Eyes

That wants to be less than £6k for the risk sir Confused

Way too much cash for a high mileage repo with a dubious history. A couple of clap more gets a car with known history and probably quite a bit less leggy. At that cost I'd steer clear and find something which is more of a known value.

Look at it this way. If the servicing has been neglected it might just throw the engine. Lack of oil changes can cause all sorts of internal wear. Now think about what sort of money a large repair might be. These things can throw a 5 grand bill without batting a headlamp at you. Whilst there are no guarantees I'd pay more up front for a better car and get a decent warranty with it.

As for keys you can have them all reprogrammed and remove any others so no issues there. I'd still keep walking though. There are better ones out there for not a lot more bunce.

It seems all the money to me. My friend is on the verge of selling his great condition 2005 4.2 VSE (full AB spec) silver with 85000 miles and his gets serviced every year at the main dealer.....And his wouldn't be much more than this one.

Hahahahaha!!

This was mine, I traded it in to Stratstone Derby to get a 4 series convertible- They gave me £7500 for it.

It definitely needed a service, and the gearbox was holding gears for a noticably longer period. There are rust bubbles on the rear wheel arches.

I'd avoid it to be honest, I traded it before any potential big gearbox bills arrived. Big Cry

First owner was from Scotland, I'm in Cheshire.

EDIT: for the avoidance of doubt, I did let the dealer know I had some concerns and was getting rid of the car both as I wanted a change, and because it was getting older and the repair bills were getting bigger and closer together.

Certainly no jealousy and I don't still have a key, But that's a hell of a lot of money for the car. I wonder if they market it as a reposession to try and make it seem like a bargain!!? Formerly happymadison1978

Sorry to go off topic but I note the reversing camera has the yellow lines. My 06 plate has no lines which renders the reversing camera, next to useless.

Is there a way to get yellow lines on mine. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

I used the 2010 onward Land Rover reversing camera from Dan at Duckworths, the cabling is the same, but you need a new holder (and it needs moving)

I've looked around here at vehicles being sold by repo companies. The cars are strictly AS IS. Usually they haven't even been washed and are full of garbage from the last owner. The worry about a previous owner keeping up with maintenance when $ is scarce is a big one. They get sold for what is still owned on the loan, not the value of the car. If you owed substantially less than the value, the logical thing to do would have been to sell it, pay off the loan and keep the difference. Therefore, I didn't see any real bargains. The repo company DID have to get a clear title through the courts before proceeding with the sale, so that shouldn't be a worry. I think I'd stick to a dealer or a private sale unless the deal was so tempting that I could bank a very tidy sum for 'surprises'.
