I've had LRs constantly for over 12 years. My wife has a L494 Sport. Been looking to move from my 7.5 year old FFRR and had been looking at some late model 4.4 TDV8s and even contemplating a D4 graphite. On driving out the LR dealership yesterday noted garage across the road had a 62 plate Cayenne Diesel. Went for a test drive today. Drove very nicely has the air suspension and off road pack along with a tow bar (rated to 3500kg). Feeling unfaithful at even driving another make of car but kinda like it. As far as the deals go is all pretty similar. Only about £30/month between the Porsche, 12 plate 4.4 and £60 for a brand new D4 Graphite.

I fully expected everyone to say the 4.4 but thought it would be interesting to hear people's views!

I'd get the FF.

If you like zee porky why not get one of the other stablemates on the same platform? I know they eat tyres quite often compared to others. I haven't driven a diesel one but can appreciate they handle well compared to the FF but offroad they won't have a patch on them. Most are specced with summery tyres and even the M&S rated ones I've seen on one I wouldn't really trust in winter. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Cayenne will 'date' quicker than the RR... L322 RR is what it is (classy).

Right spec'd Cayenne very nice although they seem to look like a footballer's/ WAG car or otherwise look like not been spec'd that well and therefore a tad plain.

IMHO

Both the FF and the Cayenne are classy SUV's, but major on different things.
My 2012 4.4 TDV8 is really refined cruiser, but doesn't really want to be hurried around turns.
The Cayenne does a decent impression of a 'sports' car in SUV clothes and feels much more reactive.
Personal taste will dictate if you like certain things about each vehicle, but the FF will never do what is shown in the photo below...if that is important to you! .....but I did in a Cayenne...

Yes, mpg looks better and VED is about £200 a year less in the Cayenne. But it's more the perceived poorer ability in the snow and loss of low range weighs on my mind.

I know the Toerag is based on the same platform but it's a huge chunk of money for a VW which you prob won't see back in comparison to the Cayenne.

Head says FullFat, heart less so....

Cayenne is a good car. If there weren't any Land Rovers, I'd give it a serious look.

It's very capable ON road, if that's all you want to do. The FFRR is much more of an all-rounder.

...New Ford Ranger 3.2 Auto Limited with adaptive cruise, lane assist, rear camera, Nav and heated leather seats. A bit different bit fancied a change, a new three year warranty and 4 years 0% finance.

Well that's not built in Britain...or Germany!

How does it drive compared to the FF?

And what's the interior like? I've been tempted by the Cayenne too but the new jeep cherokee doesn't look to shabby either. African Bush Junkie ... in London!

I've had one and they are really comfortable but they are a bit eurobox for me!
I would not have another or even consider one. Mine was a petrol and I've heard the diesel is better

I've just seen an Aussie car programme on youtube that have tested the new Ford Everest, essentially it's a 7 seater based on the ranger with the same 3.2 engine. Got a very good write up and was tested against a D4 and a Toyota LC.

The 3.2 engine seems to be a popular conversion for some of the Defender peeps too with it having 200BHP and a load of torque and 5 cyl's.

Yes, Nick, no accounting for taste! Hopefully run it for a few years then see what the L405 prices are when finances are better. We had a D4 and chopped that for a l494 so didn't really fancy loosing loads of money on two high end cars.

Maybe I won't get on with it but at least it will tow, carry the dogs and I can use the L494 at the weekend!

My wife did say I wouldn't be allowed in the quarry with the Porker....

I think the Ranger is a good choice and the 3.2 is a good power plant  Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
