How to swap TV tuner

Got my hybrid tuner today and tried to fit it tonight.

It works perfectly.

But, I cannot remove the old tuner with ease. I have another unit in front of the original tv tuner that necessitates some trim removal to get it out. This other unit also plugs into the tv tuner as well.

I can only assume this is to do with the rear screen and DVD player and headphones setup.

Has anyone removed everything in the back to replace the tv tuner? Because of the additional unit I can't fit the new hybrid tuner in without removing the old one as no space.

Thanks Alex

Yes its a PITA!!! You need to remove pretty much everything to change it over Rolling Eyes

Just be careful though, there are a huge amount of electrical plugs to disconnect so take your time sir and double check everything Shocked Thumbs Up

As Craig says, take it easy and take pics before you take it apart, it's all on 8mm and 10mm nuts...

The box in front of the TV is the radio... Thumbs Up Pete

Great, what I thought it would end up being. I'm guessing the tv tuner is bolted from the rear.

Any suggestions on where to start? Assume at the top with Bluetooth bit and work my way down?

Cheers Alex

Yes, start at the top & work your way down sir Thumbs Up

Do you have a magnetic retrieval tool? Would be a good idea as you will drop several nuts whilst re-installing and they are a pain to reach Whistle

@ Pete, the box next to the TV tuner is the RSE module sir Whistle Not the radio module Thumbs Up

No, I can borrow one and will try and label the wires to each control unit on the correct position it should be in.

Couple of hours work???

There isn't any space to put it somewhere else.

I took these pictures below, as mine has RSE I have the additional unit and DVD player so no space left anywhere to put anything extra.

I can't rotate the pictures, but the RSE unit sits in the space whre I plugged the hybrid tuner into last night to test if it worked so the whole lot has to come out to swap tuners over Big Cry

cheers Alex

Took about an hour and a half from start to finish including my three year old helping me do it.

Actually very very easy to do. No dropped bolts or anything lost.

Found a bit of corrosion on the plug into the Bluetooth module and the pins in the unit itself. What is the best way to clean this up?

Cheers Alex

Upgraded mine from analogue to hybrid digital back in 2010. Wrote what I had to do here...
http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic1868-90.html page 6 near bottom.
You basically have to remove everything , however, it's not as hard as it seems as all the connectors have unique fits (except the optical cables) so you can't actually plug them back into the wrong port (or that was how they were on my Vogue SE which had the factory RSE setup). I removed the analogue tuner and replaced it with the hybrid. As the hybrid is thinner and shorter all 4 bolts from the analogue unit would not fit, however, 2 of them aligned fine so I just bolted it in with the 2 and has no probs. Also plug n play , so powered back up and there was my digi tuner. Steve

When I started I was labelling the connectors as at first glance at dusk a few nights before they all looked similar. Like you say they are all colour coded and sized so impossibe to not get right when putting back. My tuner was exactly the same size as the one that wa removed so used all four bolts. Didn't have to disconnect any HK stuff as I was able to lift out the tuner and HK unit on the metal bracket in one go and turn it over to remove and swap.

Reckon I could do it in about haf an hour now, dead easy and anice little upgrade that everyone in the car except me will appreciate whilst we drive along! Laughing

Hi Alex, yep , same as me , first time I did it I thought it would be a nightmare but wasn't due to the uniqueness of the connectors and I did do it a second time and was literally 20-30mins from memory Smile My hybrid unit was for a Jaguar, sounds like yours was made for the Range Rover as all 4 bolts fitted (same internals and connectors, just different size outer case I suspect). Steve
