Not sure if this is relevant or even if we have one but read this on meeknet M62 site.
Not sure what would give a roar or you may already be sorted
I only use OEM filters as only about £10

Have you checked the rubber mounts on the filter housing are not split as that is a very common problem?

can you get somebody to rev it while you have your head under the bonnet and put your hand on it to dampen it or use an electronic stethoscope / ear to a screw driver ( the blunt end) ?
Like all vibration, it will resonate at a certain frequency band and occur due to a set of conditions causing it i guess.

And it stops the noise when you put your hand on the filter housing ?

Power steering pump maybe, mine makes more of a noise when its on full lock but doesn't vibrate anything noticeably?

The rubber socket at the bottom could be perished/gone. Worth a check.

When you change the filter, is the filter clipped to the cap when you remove it?

will have a look. i have ordered new mounts and will change when they com. i was thinking along the same lines that the filter is turning in housing but i think that would be hard as the filter went in pretty tight

I think there is supposed to be a valve in the bottom of the filter housing that the filter pushes closed and when the filter comes out attached to the lid it opens the valve so you could check the condition of the valve. It also stops the drain back from the housing when engine is off.
On a BMW site they show the filter being attached to the lid before fitting but I think I read in the Land Rover manual that the filter is pushed into the housing first.
Not sure if anything I just typed gas any relevance to your problem Confused

checked top housing today .both housing bolts have no rubber on them at all. just steel tubes linking bracket to filter / there is no evidence of rubber ever being there/ i know it would make sense to have rubber mounts. there is one on the bottom of filter/ had her out today 40 miles no noise at all running like a dream cant make sense of it has anyone else seen mounts that have no rubber on them or has mine been modified ? i have had her 3 years now and have been under bonnet lots of times/ never noticed rubber mounts on oil filter/ how would you check valve? filter fits tight to bottom of housing and would be very hard to fit if mounted in lid first. as in impossible to turn without destroying filter. will fit rubber mounts when they come and post result

Thats cool, they have obviously broken in the past and somebody has 'fixed' them as when the rubber goes there is nothing to hold the filter body in place. They usually get old and brittle and then the twisting motion of undoing the filter cap breaks them off.
Don't worry about the valve, it's there to allow the oil to drain out when you change the filter so if you haven't got oil when you change the filter it should be ok. sometimes they get stuck open and allow the oil to drain back so when you start you get the clatter but that is normally caused by the vanos or timing chain tensioner or non return valves behind the vanos solenoids but that is a whole new topic.
Glad you have sorted it
