Crap Nav?

We have noticed that the sat nav in our 2012MY L322 seems very slow to give instruction, such that you've almost got to be crawling to hear the directions and react, otherwise you're past the exit/ junction.

We never had any gripes with our 2007 L322 sat nav.

Is it only ours?

It's pretty bad when you have to resort to that on a car that cost over £70k new and used the same technology until 3 years ago Crying or Very sad

I've used the navigation a few times recently in our 2012 322 and have been pleasantly surprised how good it is; haven't experienced the issues you are reporting.

It has never got the wrong location but in city centres for example, it has struggled to keep up.

As mentioned, some smart phone/ apps - when compared side by side - seem sharper.

Still running on the original Sat Nav on MY02 never failed me on the the occasions when I haven't used my pigeon brain to get where I am going. Never missed a turn, always plenty of warning, and gets very upset when I ignore its instructions Twisted Evil Does get a bit lost where there are new roads though Laughing .

I have not had any problems with my Tomtom Laughing Used the on board once, didn't like it, so installed the Tomtom and haven't looked back, especially as I get live traffic updates Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I ran Google Maps and the onboard side by side on our Xmas/NY 2015/6 trip and both performed well. My maps on the onboard are 2010 (probably more like 2009) or the maps that came with the original car when new AFAIK. Not worth the money updating the maps as Google Maps / Waze etc. are much better value anyway (and available worldwide, unlike the onboard).

But to come back to the OP question, no it hasn't been slow hardly ever on our last use of the car, maybe once or twice if my failing memory serves me correctly (not likely but hey, it's all I have).

I do still have my major gripe with the JLR Navigation systems that they are a disgrace for the best 4 by 4 by far bla bla bla with only a few regions in the world on maps, no integration of other maps like Tracks 4 Africa etc. I mean if JLR really meant the slogans (I know they don't) they'd do a lot more to integrate every conceivable on and off road mapping option into their system but they are not interested in their cars to go offroading / overlanding that much, so not worth the investment.

So we end up with all kinds of additional screens / equipment to allow us to not use paper maps Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I think that the "Best 4x4 By Far" has been abbreviated and is missing the last bit that should read "In Chelsea" Wink I purely didn't use mine because it didn't do traffic, and it was a 2D screen... I'm so used to a 3D screen, having used a Tomtom for 14 years, there is no way that I'd down grade to 2D Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

The old MKIII was really unusable. CD maps, only one country per CD, slow response, '80s 8-bit graphics... Neutral

Since upgrading to MKIV, I am pretty satisfied.
In fact, I am so satisfied I even stopped hanging my phone with that tremendous suction cup.
Maps on DVD (half EU on one DVD), far better graphics, quick response: the device is definitely a must among L322 improvements! Thumbs Up
Plus, it is largely customizable (custom splash screen, hidden options, etc.).

MKIV units' prices vary a lot, on eBay one can find working units from ~200€ up to 600€ - quite a large span.
I bought a cheap broken unit for the sake of challenge, I ended up fixing it et voilà! Mr. Green

Interestingly enough, I found out that they are rather easy to fix. Mine had extensive water damages, but nothing that a good rebuild could not bring back to life.
Most of the units suffer from broken laser drives, which can ben fixed for about ~100€.
