Holidays in France

Ok, gents, SWMBO has "expressed an interest" in finding some sunshine closer to home that Dubai, so France has been mentioned as a possibility.

Here are her requirements :-
1. Sunshine
2. On the coast
3. Somewhere "quant but with a touch of luxury"
4. Near to an airport that can be reached easily from Glasgow.

My requirements are :-
1. Decent wifi so I can watch TV from back in Blighty as I'll be bored senseless.
2. Nice rustic views wherer I can take some nice photos
3. Maybe even somewhere we could drive to.
4. Somewhere "luxurious with a touch of quaint"
5. Nice food and wine.

Any thoughts? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Somewhere on the South Coast. Me and Mrs S are not beach seekers, but went to Eze (in the hills between Nice and Monaco) last summer. Blistertingly hot, but the place we stayed had a pool and air con. Not too pricey if I recall correctly - about £800 for 6 nights self catered. It was a complex of studio apartments, found on line by friends we travelled with. Best bit was we could drive there ( I hate travelling in the tin tube that is an airliner). This place had wifi and some decent places to eat nearby. Note though that you can't get your TV fix via wifi - your device will detect your not in Blighty and so whilst you can get on to Sky Go or BBC iplayer, it won't let you watch anything.

The journey by FFRR is a breeze and if you have them, you really get to appreciate the cooled seats! Its also about 30 minutes from Nice airport and a bus ride from Monaco. There are posher hotels there too.

Villefranche-sur-mer, between Nice & Monaco, good transport links
Cavalaire-sur-mer just west of St Tropez
Thats the seaside, alternatively have you thought of the mountains in France, Morzine and its surrounding area is as big in the summer as it is for the skiers, down the road is thonon-les-bains, so its a spa area......
Even the atlantic west cost, high surf or something as near as Brittany, again west coast (can be like the summer isles) or northern brittany (gorse heather & cliffs).
France is fantastic, it has everything N, S, E & W, even central around the puy-de-dome. Unfortunatly it also has the french!, joking of course.....

ile de rae near La Rochelle, is nice. THat was last year for us.

Year before was a nice villa in Plan de la tour. Hot great views wifi....pool and AC.

Have a look on the rental sites. The hills around the south of France are lovlely, and though they can be prices there are bargains to be had if you can go slightly off season out of the school hols periods. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The 2 coastlines are quite different - the Atlantic & the Med.

I would start with which airports can you get to from Glasgow & expand out from there. Whilst it's drivable, from Glasgow it's really a 2 day trip - the FFRR is a nice place to be, but unless you have hers of luggage or need the car whilst you're there, flying would be the better option.

I spend most of my free time lakeside in France, but not far from the Atlantic coast - and it can be quite spectacular to watch, but less friendly to be swimming in. I'm on the shore of a freshwater lake, that is flat to ski on, but the internet is crap....

Biarritz would tick a lot of your boxes, but I've only ever done day trips there so couldn't recommend accommodation.

Sounds most likely that you'll end up somewhere on the Med coast though....
