Went to change the swan neck to multi height tow hitch, only to find my largest socket 22mm is too small. I did not want to mangle it with a large adjustable so gave up for today.

Anyone know what size socket I need?

The multi hitch came with a simple slide in bar with a spring clip. I'll reuse the bolt and stow the swan neck in it's cubby hole.

24mm, or 15/16" on mine.

Thanks for that, may just have an old ring spanner that will fit from 30 years ago.

good luck with that, mine had only been on for 2 years and the mechanics had to use a large impact wrench to get it off. If its a factory fit it will be TIGHT

Im only a puny 15 stone builder and I couldn't undo it. Certainly don't try with an adjustable.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I also found this impossible to remove with normal hand tools, including 2' bar on main bolt. You will probably need a spanner on the other side too, to stop the bolt turning, if you can get it moving. LR seem to assemble this dry which makes it harder too. Once mine had been freed off I coppergreased the thread. You might find the stem of the tow bar holder stuck in with rust too, in my case it had to be hammered out. I coated it with Vaseline when I put it back and again that made removing it subsequently easier.

I found that when I put it back it needed a lot of tightening to stop the stem of the towbar assembly clunking as the trailer went over uneven surfaces, again spanner on the other side of the bolt required. Only Range Rovers since 1988

The bolt does not show any signs of corrosion. The adjustable will hold the bolt head, flat on flats should be okay.

Well the nut was tight. Set vehicle height to rock hopping, put socket and long bar on the ground, let vehicle down to normal, get out and nothing broken still plenty of leverage room so let it down to access height, get and get under and yes it has budged. Adjustable on bolt head and a few tight turns and it was free to use the socket ratchet. Bolt needed to be drifted out and the swan neck slid out.
Multi height plate slid in bolt drifted back in no damage to thread done up but not quite so tight.
Tow ball is on the middle setting 39 CMs and is higher than the swan neck 35 CMs, although suspension may need to settle a little. Within those EU rules!
