How to :- repair the original reverse camera

I replaced my camera last year and it's still working without any problems
First thing is you need is to buy ebay item eBay Item No. 171249725289 this is similar to the one I purchased and at £13 it's a damn sight cheaper than a JLR part, ok so next we need to remove the interior trim at the top of the tailgate this will access the three bolts holding the spoiler on

Next thing is to remove the spoiler and unplug the hi level brake light and camera

Then you need to remove the camera housing from the spoiler there is a rivet holding it which needs to be drilled out

then the camera housing needs to be dismantled

From there you need to remove the old defunked camera and install the new camera which will sit straight into the original housing there will need to be a bit of drilling to the rear of the housing to get the new plugs through but a bit of silicone will make good so no ingress of any sort appears then reassemble the camera housing you also need to make sure that the position of the camera is correct as it is a fixed camera (don't want to connect everything only to put the camera on and it looks like you're reversing in Australia) Rolling with laughter, so next thing I did which I thought was easiest was to cut the feeds to the new camera and from the original (as to keep original plugs for ease of refit) solder and tape the bare wires

Now all that's left is to do the complete reverse to put everything back together

I hope this helps because there is absolutely no information anywhere on how to do this apart from buying a new one which is ££££, I did this blind but like I said everything has been working faultlessly for a year now

Just a quick note of advice some of the original cameras might be PAL or NTSC you will need to check this before you purchase the replacement by doing the 753 test and selecting the rear camera

Cheers and good luck

Update & info pls

Three questions for Stu (at risk of reviving a zombie thread):

Maybe I'm blind, but which year L322 was this done on?

Any pics of what the actual video output looks like?

And now that it's been another year plus, is it still working?

- Thanks!

Reading this makes me ponder whether to look into the type of camera I fitted to the L200 which is far superior and hasLED's to help at night. £20 IIRC. 2007 Vogue TDV8 with 255/55/20's fitted

Great write up, just one thing, you don't have to remove any interior trim to reach the three bolts that hold the spoiler on, you can get to them with the boot open very easily, hope you don't mind the comment it's just that the interior trim is very brittle and the less on and off it gets the better... I followed your write up and did the same job on mine but when I select reverse, the picture only really shows about 2ft from the rear of the car and the guide lines are zoomed in.

Is this the same on your car or is it the same as the old camera?
