it seems rather fragile for a bird to do that, in my previous grand cherokee jeep i was constantly hitting pigeons on the way to work early morning side of a country road they would just take off straight into the front, but never did any damage

Seems silly that a RR thats built for serious off road could be damaged by a bird.

£1,800 for a light, bumper off to fit so close to £2,000 all in...

Surely that's worth a claim, 10yrs premiums for me.... Pete

insurance sounds like a good idea. i mean you would only loose this years nab if you have protected.

Every claim affects your premium.

Protected NCB is a bit of a con - as you're protecting the discount and not the premium.

So you will never really know until afterwards what it cost you because you can get a quote each year with & without the claim & see - but there is no reliable way to project forward what the impact could be.

You have to declare the claims for 5 years - so you have to assume it will have some impact on your premium for those years.

If you can do the job yourself, then swallow the £800 - if you're paying proper prices & it's looking like a couple of grand, then you just have to do what calculations you can & decide whether to roll the dice with future premiums.

i am looking at lights from a breakers or new trade price and fitting it myself so am hoping its not in the £2k region.

i dont have protected NCB as you have to declare any claim anyway its a multi policy and premium will be affected on all vehicles, cant see it being worth it currently. may change my mind when prices come through. Cheers

James

i dont know, 50mph RR, 20mph Ph. 70mph hitting straight on a headlight, think most would break. i know mine did! Cheers

Does anyone know of a company that makes/sells those made to measure clip-on perspex headlight protectors for MY2012? They don't seem to be available; anyone know someone who could make a set; still has to be good value compared to replacing an otherwise good headlight unit.

Always stayed away from those headlight protectors that look like cages as having had some on a previous P38 and a Disco I once owned, they where a pain in the rear to clean behind when washing the vehicles. However, based on some of the replacement costs mentioned here..... to fit or not to fit.

I still can't believe that the lights are so fragile that a bird strike would damage them. It seems really poor design.
