My front screen has a couple of chips in it and yesterday, I found that only the passenger side is clearing when the heat is switched on.

Where's the difference? Just had my screen replaced recently - the only difference i found was that there is about 8mm gap between the L and R side heating elements - so you have a thin vertical frost line directly in the middle of the windshield. Can live with that to now.

Had that gap on every car I've had with the heated screen. Keeps the two banks of heating elements seperate as the current runs up one side and down the other doesn't it?

I had a mare getting a heated screen for my Classic years back, but I did eventually get it sorted.

I've not had the gap on any of my RR's. The L&R are completely separate circuits and technically, the current will only be running in one direction - either up or down depending on the polarity. I had Carglass do the work here in France because I agreed to having them do the work when I insured my car. Anyone else and my premium is higher. I have no idea if Carglass and Autoglass are related, but I can tell you that the work that he did on the windshield itself was impeccable. No 3 tons of mastic and if there is a leak it will be a freak accident. After watching him work - and admiring his specialist tools - I can guarantee that no dealer would have installed my windshield better (the actual glass, that is). Quite likely, they, the unpracticed dealer monkeys, would have done a worse job on the glass. He did break 2 clips on the new A-pillar covers and re-installed all the plastic rivets w/o the center pins... Didn't watch closely when he finished up and now have to have him come out again sometime. I'd prefer to have the actual glass work done well, tho. No leaks or other major problems. The clips I can sort myself if need be. RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr, P38, and 2 L322s (wife thinks I'm nuts - prob right, too) |

I think most dealers use specialist glass repairers as opposed to their own staff.

Had my Discovery glass changed - Dealership don't do it themselves.
