could this be repaired

Hi all

So this week hasn't been great! and to top it off come out today to find a screw in my 2 month old £200+ rear drivers side tyre!!! Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Took the car to my local tyre repair garage and they have said that it is outside the allowed repair area and the tyre cant be repaired. Crying or Very sad

However reading online apparently you can get tyres vulcanised to repair them that are like this. Has anyone done this and if so does anyone recommend any companies? I know that I would have to send the tyre to them for a few days.

I wouldn't be putting the tyre back on as a main tyre as I will replace it but would like to get it repaired to replace my spare wheel tyre.

This is the tyre in question.



Any advice welcome!

I think they only repair the central 2/3rds of the tread area - so on that basis no

However, I had a similar one repaired on a previous car to use only as a spare - local tyre fitter that I know

The issue is apparently there is more flex nearer the sidewalls, so more chance of the patch becoming unstuck - I was happy to take the risk.

Most places are going to say no, but you might just find someone who will.

no it cant Matt...theres to much flex at that point so the patch/mushroom will not adhere... ... - .- -.

If you don't mind it letting go at just the wrong moment and writing off your car and seriously hurting your entire family, then skimp on the £200. letters not necessarily in the right order

just spoken to this company http://www.candstyres.co.uk/tyre-vulcanising/

they have said that they can do it and the repair will make the tyre fully safe and certified up to British safety standards, they will repair it and then bake it over night to cure the repair.

Got it booked in for Thursday £30, this is only going to be used as a spare anyway from now on so makes sense if they are warranting the repair.

what about the original way they plug it with a rubber cord and glue, you have nothing to loose V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

You COULD look up a repair kit on eBay, and do the repair yourself, as its for your own spare etc. You get a sharp skewer tool and some rubber cords, for about £10. They are actually handy to have in the boot, in case you get the old 'oops just drove over an old mudflap in the road, and the upturned 'flap screws have just trashed both my near side tyres!' and I'm stuffed, and stranded. With the kit, you can get your tyres sealed, and a cigar powered pump will get them back up to pressure, all without even taking off the wheel! ( You keep some leak bubble liquid in the boot to reveal the holes)
It's true you should not rely on the (sidewall repaired) tyre for high speed evasive driving, like emergency lane changes.
But going around some back street east European tyre shacks, will get you into some vulcanised better repaired tyres.
Just saying what's out there, not recommending anything. Confused
