Drivers seat heater doesn't stay on

Hi All,

I've just taken the RR on a 1100 mile round trip on business in the UK and a few issues started to surface... Among these, on a very cold morning last week I jumped in and pressed the heated seat button. The lights came on, but after 2-3 seconds they flicked off. I tried again a few times but to no avail. All other heated seats in the car are working fine (so presumably not a fuse).

The iid is simply reading "heated seat fault" with no specifics.

I've searched through here but haven't been able to find anybody provide a cure to this one and I'm not sure where to start. Any thoughts? Embarassed

Many thanks in advance,

Chris 2002 Range Rover Td6 Vogue

It's usually a short/break in the element in the seat cushion, the drivers tend to go first as they take more abuse from people sitting on them...

Unfortunately the element is built into the seat cover so the only answer is to buy the whole cover, after tracing and finding if it's the seat cushion (most common failure) or the back rest...

You maybe able to pick up a second hand one on eBay, but no way to tell if it will work...

Could try fitting a generic heating pad under the original cover.... may work....

Good luck Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks guys.

Would be good to know if they're interchangeable as it usually just me in the car on the cold mornings when I need them!

If I sourced another seat base, is it possible to retain my leather trim? The leather on mine is absolutely spotless thanks to previous keepers (forum members!) keeping it absolutely immaculate, soft and matt.

The "cover" is the leather bit you sit on.. the element is under the leather, then there are various other layers of stuff... you can't change the leather cover without changing the heating element and vice versa....

You maybe able to get an upholsterer to take it all apart and fix it but I expect that would be more than a new one....

I don't know if the front covers are interchangeable, I doubt it though without some hole somewhere showing.... Pete

From what I can make out on line the seat base covers are not handed, so you should be able to swap sides, at least if the problem moves to the passenger side you'll know the cause.... then it will be a case of finding the correct colour cover on fleabay, there are a few peeps who regularly have NOS seat covers Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Guys

Many thanks for all this, much appreciated. Sad to hear I can't keep my immaculate leather trim which has been so well maintained over 14 years of life! Sad

Swapping the seats sounds like a good start. How laborious a job is this - I can't find any guides?

Many thanks as ever,

Chris 2002 Range Rover Td6 Vogue

Hmmmm, think I might have to play a game of swapsy.... drivers side is getting very soft on the edge and showing it's age, the passenger side has a small nick 6" from the front at the highest point.... just here it can jump out at you Censored Censored Swap them over and the squishy bit goes to the centre console and so does the nick Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
