Hi all,

I attempted to jack up my FF using the sill points the other day to rotate the tyres. Even using a massive trolley jack borrowed from my neighbour, the jack ran out of travel before the suspension did, and it was trying to roll across the floor as the height meant the weight was now pressing on it at an angle, which was in my mind an unsafe situation.
Is it possible to jack the suspension arms/spring bottom mounts at all or does the car have to be jacked from the sill?
If so, can anyone please recommend a high-lift bottle jack capable of overcoming the suspension travel (especially at the rear)?

I'm starting to wonder about one of those airbag type jacks, the sort you pump up from your exhaust.

I've lifted my car plenty of times under the suspension arms without any problems.

what you need is a merc sprinter van bottle jack i use one on mine without any problems

i to use a trolley jack under the suspension arms, front and rear.... ... - .- -.

^ +1. The suspension arm is the place to jack from.

Trolley jack and a block of wood to spread the load on the suspension arms  Mine was a blue one!

A quick google suggests that the place to do it is where the arm pivots on the subframe, like so?

I would use the point your picture shows, or the point on the suspension arm under the upright, since that point carries the weight of the car in normal use.

You'll still have the same problem of the arm distending the suspension fully and running out of jack height.

I use the point hearer ther wheel so the suspension keeps the car supported. And as mentioned by others, a piece of wood to spread the load.

Using a 3 ton trolley jack I have comfortably lifted both front wheels off the ground. Then used axle stands. Very convenient when doing both front suspension arms.

Haven't used the rear point (next page) but the pad on my trolley jack looks a bit wide to pass between the two exhaust branches. I suspect that a suitable sized block between the jack and the jacking point will do the trick. Will try it when I get round to checking handbrake shoes. John
