As with everyone in my street, I'm responsible for the fence on my right side, which I recently replaced. However, the chavs to my left are happy to leave what's left of their broken, rotting fence whilst pretending to have money.

difficult one noddy...you could put up a very cheap fence [on your ground] and paint their side in very bright colours, that might force them to put up a new fence... ... - .- -.

Downside with having it in writing is that you may have to declare it when you come to sell. Any neighbour dispute must be mentioned, where as a quiet word is fine... |

True - but a polite and simple request along the lines of "I was hoping you might want to do something about your fence as is strating to look a little damaged" should be enough to make them at least pay a little attention to it rather than cause a full blown dispute...

...I was thinking a taser pistol on a dark night, less obvious and should only need to be done the once - could have a lovely fence up before too long |

I had the same thing a few years back. I just went round and had a sensible conversation along the lines of "you do it or if you prefer, I'll do it and give you the bill"
