Hi All,

Can anyone advise if the e-diff is man enough for the occasional off roading or whether I should be really looking for a vehicle for a rear locking differential. Appreciate views and to be honest, my vehicle will spend a large majority of its time on the road with an occassional excursion across muddy farm tracks, fields and snow filled roads.

You definately don't need a rear locking diff to do a bit of off roading.

The FFRR will go places that will surprise you once you get used to it in it's standard form.
The locking diff does add to the ability, but not that much really, considering the type of off roading conditions the vehicle is likely to face.
You still have traction control on all four wheels and that will get you through a lot once you get the hang of how to drive it.

Bear in mind the Defender, which Land Rover built it's name on, does not even come with the option of a locking diff! ---Edit: to the rear---

Um, think the defender does have a locking diff and it's standard. It has centre locking diff, locking front and rear.

No it doesn't.

Open front and rear. Just locking centre (manual) and relies on traction control for the front and rear.
Traction control is not standard either, only on the XS. On others it's an option.
A standard Defender (not XS) will get completely stuck if it loses traction to two wheels on the same side of the car. A FFRR won't.

It's the G wagon that can have locking front and rear.

Not quite sure as the wording is a bit unfortunate, but I think scene meant:
It has centre locking diff, which locks the (drivetrain) front to the rear.

But I could be wrong...

I also initially mistyped, left the word "rear" out of the last sentence.

My point was, if the Defender can manage without a locking rear diff (and quite often without traction control) I'm sure a FFRR can. I was surprised on Saturday how much grip a FFRR has on road tyres in mud and on loose surfaces.

Thanks Steve, exactly what I meant. Was being obscure with wording as guessed Fox meant rear locking diff but didn't specify.

Just being silly really. Anyway nice to have it all cleared up, we all know what we're on about, and still doesn't change anything to do with FFRR (which is brill!) hehe

I'm starting to get excited as should get mine in 2 weeks!
