Auto Trader Website

Spleen vent time but what a complete waste of time this website is. There have been vehicles on there for months yet when you enquiry, its ' sorry sold " Why don't they take them off once they are no longer available or is it that they like you to see loads of cars for sale and thus make it look like its a popular, bustling site in order to attract more advertisers... ummm.

Often the fault is with he seller for writing sold rather than cancelling the advert . I do agree though very annoying .

I think you can pay for hold till sold and I think if some people sell quickly they leave the advert live to get there money's worth . Totally mad !!!!!!!

I can sort of understand a trader leaving it active as they would then be able to maybe offer and alternative but for non traders it makes no sense as all you will is phonecalls L322 2008 vogue

There are at least 5 FFR's I know of that are sold but are still on the site, some for at least 3 weeks after being sold.

Its a sales tactic .
If a car car sells quickly , and the phone is still ringing , why not keep that phone ringing and try to interest "potentials" in another of your stock ?
It also keeps the company name in the spotlight so "potentials" remember it .

On the more seedy side , a car is advertised below book and the sales people then close "potentials" into another car once at the premises .
It's known as "bait and switch" over here .
Totally illegal in California .

Yet I even caught a porsche main dealers doing it about 3 years ago ......

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bait-and-switch

I'll try to search the old email conversation with the sales person , then sales manager , then general managers, then district manger etc etc .
First denial , then promises that it wasn't fraud , then statements that all old ads had been deleted ,
I then sent a link to another ad for the same car , which elicited the ad removal and denial , then a denial that the car in question was advertised online .
So then I sent a link for another old ad for the same car ...
Laughing

In the end they deleted all the ads and stopped replying , and I bought a car from another dealers about 70 miles away .

It was funny that once I said I'd buy the car and collect next week when the sales manager came out and said they couldn't take a deposit , as by law once a deposit was paid they had to remove all ads as the car was legally sold .....
